Because of recurring UTIs, I have been on daily Macrobid since about 14 weeks. However, just about everything I read (including the warning pamphlet that comes with the drug) says that Macrobid shouldn’t be taken in the last couple weeks/during labor and delivery because it can cause a blood disorder (hemolytic anemia) in the baby and that it passes into breastmilk, so shouldn’t be used by nursing mothers However, when I asked my OB about when I would be stopping, she said I would be taking it the whole time, and that it was fine. Has anyone else taken macrobid all the way till their baby was born?
I’m 34 weeks now, so I’m going to continue taking it for now, especially since I just had an active UTI even with the daily prophylactic macrobid (upped the dosage to 2 pills/day for the infection and now I’m back to 1/day) and I definitely don’t want a UTI, but I am kindof concerned that my OB says macrobid is fine throughout pregnancy even with the warnings all over the pamphlet..
