(Closed) Anyone take martial arts?

We use to do mui thai kick boxing (sorry for spelling mistakes) when we lived in Ontario with an incredible fighter. I miss it so much. I would do the womens class which was more like cardio kickboxing and not a real technique class and then go into the mens class which was so much more fun. We cant find a martial arts studio that we like all there is is shitty karate and stuff like that in our area.

I took karate for several years, at a dojo that started out as all women and was still predominantly women’s and only really stopped because I moved out of the area. I loved it. There was a lot of emphasis on self defense, but also on physical strength and health, with a very meditative approach. From what I can tell, martial arts training is very dependent on the approach of the place you take it, rather than the style or type of training. Oh, and I also built really good stretching habits during that time, and even though I now mostly just go to the gym, I know my body’s limits and strengths in such a way that I basically never hurt myself through exercise. It took me a while to realize that that isn’t the norm because I started doing karate in my teens!

I have a black belt in Karate and now do kick boxing. I love martial arts – it is great for fitness and for fun. The self-defence and self-dicipline that come along are just added benefits!
