I’m using one! I really wanted to capture the emotion and minimize the staged moments. We have our engagement pictures next week, I’ll tell you how it goes!

You can check out their website, it’s david witting photography DWP

@minted:  I’m a wedding photojournalist so I’m partial but it’s a great asset to have if you are really looking for someone who is trained to capture emotional moments in a fast paced environment. Check out the Wedding Photojournalists Association to see wedding photojournalists in your area – the WPJA screens all members and has strict guidelines for those applying to be a member (like your portfolio can’t have heavy editing, needs to be less than 30% details/ set up shots, etc). It’s a great resource!

We’re using a photojournalist that has more recently branched out into weddings, I think his pictures are awesome and like you, capturing the emotion and the actual events of the day is most important to me. That played a huge role in my choice.

Are you asking about a wedding photographer shooting in a photo journalistic style or an actual photojournalist who is shooting a few weddings?

@minted:  Our photog uses primarily a photojournalistic approach but also does formal photos as well. We want a mix!

Our photographer is a photojournalist. We much prefer it looks-wise, so that was really important for us. I really hate posed pictures and posing for pictures–it’s so awkward and doesn’t look that great. Our photographer does some posed, but it’s more letting us be natural and giving us a few pointers about moving a head or an arm or looking somewhere.

There’s a big difference between a wedding photographer that shoots in a journalistic style and a true photojournalist. Most people tend to prefer the journalistic approach to their wedding photography, just keep in mind if you are hiring someone who is not a wedding photographer they will I’m sure get you beautiful images, but you pretty much have to release them of all responsibility to capture what you’d expect from a wedding photographer. A true photojournalist captures moments, so they generally are focusing on what is going on around them – that being said, they’re usually not in tuned with anticipating what happens at weddings.

Had my engagement shoot, it was incredible!!!!!

I highly recommend DWP as photojournalist photographers! We walked around city and did very few posed photos, for the most part it was just my FI and I being, us.
