I am looking into buying an iPad — esp. b/c I think it would be nice to have on our honeymoon & be able to watch movies while we travel, etc. I was excited that the new one came out b/c my non-caring self will hopefully be able to buy the older version for less!
So, I am just trying to figure out what size iPad I would need. I would like to get movies onto the ipad (which I am reading is a kind of arduous process) but I don’t have a sense of how many movies would fit on a 16 GB iPad or even a 32 GB. We clearly wouldn’t be putting our entire video collection on the iPad, but would at least 10 or so fit while still saving room for other things like photos, etc?
Anyone with an iPad (or even who has a good sense of how much space a movie takes up) who can provide insight would be really helpful!

I just got an ipad a few months ago and I love watching movies on it. I always stream Netflix so I’m not much help as fas as how many movies would fit. I did find this website, idk how accurate it is though. It claims 12 movies could fit on a 16gb ipad. It probably depends on the quality of your movies. Any way you could check the file size on the computer/hard drive your movies are currently on?

I go with the rule : 1 movie = 1 gb, so that way you can fit as many movies as you have gb and have enough room for other stuff as well. I would suggest saving 2 gb for your pictures too

I think the netflix app is a great idea–and I think we are definitely going to get a netflix subscription (esp. after we finally get a blu ray player with wi-fi). While we are traveling we probably won’t have access to wi-fi most of the time, so I am going to try to upload some movies to keep us busy.
We probably won’t put any songs on it, but the 1gb=1 movie rule is definitely helpful. I think we will aim for the 32 GB (wifi only–no 3G). Maybe we can get a good deal on ebay so it won’t be more than the 16GB from apple directly!
We’re living mostly in CA, so won’t be using it on public transport and what not, but can anybody tell me how having 3G changed their life?? Right now I dont feel like I would use it much. Can movies stream over the 3G pretty decently?
