I LOVE netflix! Basically there are two components to it. The instant-streaming and the dvds. We have the 1 at a time dvd plan.
I will say this... it is not perfect. The movies do come really fast (if I put one in the mail on Wednesday I get a new one on Friday), but sometimes it can be frustrating to only get one dvd at a time. Especially over a lazy weekend or if you're watching a tv series on dvd because some shows (*cough*trueblood*cough*) only have like 2 episodes per dvd. The instant streaming is really cool when you're bored... but don't expect it to have that many things you look for. It is better for just browsing and deciding to watch something rather than saying "oo I wonder if it has x" because chances are it won't have it.
But, despite the problems I really like it because its cheap and I like having random b list movies and documentaries to watch when i'm bored.
I've only had it a few months but really like it so far. I used the instant play feature a lot, there is a more limited selection but I can watch certain movies or tv shows through the ps3, on my laptop, or even on my iPhone. We still get 1 disc at a time, but I'm usually pretty slow about returning those.
FI has it, and we just use the Watch Instantly feature. It's pretty amazing for the $9 a month he spends on it :).
We used to have it and it was okay. We cancelled it though because it was kind of an unnecessary expense.
We decided to do a trial run. I doubt I'll watch much on my slow p.o.s. computer, but it's great because it is hooked up to the xbox. I was so excited looking through all the movies, setting our preferences, rating things, etc. but then I started searching for movies and was totally bummed. A lot of movies we looked for are DVD only, even older ones. But I also love it because there are foreign films and documentaries that I normally wouldn't rent but look really interesting and I'm willing to watch.
I was just wondering how other bees rate it and if it is worth paying the $7.99 (which is, like, nothing! I spend a lot more than that at RedBox.)
We have it and really enjoy it. I agree with some of the others who said it can be really frustrating when you want to watch something and it's DVD only. I heard a rumor that they'll be going to only instant watch soon....
Yes and LOVE it. Can't beat it for $8.99/mo. So worth it, I watch a lot of documentaries and the boy loves his Family Guy, haha. And yeah, there aren't really "new releases" but there are so many I haven't seen.
-- We use it on the Wii
I LOOOOOOOVE NETFLIX! My fiance and I decided to start trying it in November and it's awesome. Most of what we want is on their instant watch list and if it isn't, the DVDs come w/in two days.
I use it all the time! I don't use the DVDs that often, but the instant streaming video makes it really easy to watch lots of TV shows. Definitely worth the $9.
I really love it - I stream it through my Wii to my TV. I'm in Canada and it just came out in September so we don't have all the new releases that come out on it in the US. The newest movies on it are a couple of months old. Even so, it's totally worth it for the money...we save so much not renting from a store. They put new movies on it all the time, you can never run out. Also, I find I have watched a lot of different things that I never would have necessarily rented, such as documentaries. TOTALLY RECOMMEND IT!
I love Netflix!!
We get the DVDs in the mail, plus the streaming disc plus now we can use it on the PS3 without the streaming disc.
My understanding is that is going to stream-only in the future. I've been finding that they've been putting alot more movies on the "instant watch".
It's perfect for my FI and I because I love old British movies and I can get them all on netflix. FI loves his HBO shows and such. I love the national geographic documentaries too. You can go into your account online, pick movies there and create an "instant queque" so that your movies are lined up on one page.
I highly recommend it.
I love Netflix. For $9.00 a month it's a steal. I got rid of cable because I have the Wii on the main TV and the kids each have PS3, and we can stream right to the TV through those. They have tons of TV shows and movies to choose from...granted they are not the new releases, but we get those one at a time, and they come in the mail fast.
LOVE NETFLIX! We have one of the larger plans (instant streaming, 3 DVDs at a time, and Blueray) because we're both total media addicts, but we get a lot of use out of it. We use the instant streaming all the time (through the XBOX) and set up a sub-account for me so we each have our own DVD queues. I would totally recommend it.
Oh, and we first got it when we didn't have cable - it totally made up for it! Cable's included in our rent now, but we still use the Netflix quite a bit.
I've had netflix since 2005 and LOVE it. They recently started streaming live and it's really great. At first the titles weren't very good but they're gradually getting better/adding newer stuff.
We also go with the larger plan (20 bucks/month)- but we don't have cable. Between netflix and hulu we're very happy.
I love netflix! The FI and I don't have cable, so we just stream to our Wii. It is awesome!!!
We have netflix and love it. SO is a huge movie fanatic so he always has a movie going. I like that there's always something around to watch.
We don't even have a tv. We just stream netflix, MSNBC and hulu on the computer when we need our digital media fix!
We have and LOVE IT!! We get movies all the time and we watch the instant stream all the time. FI spent most of last week and the weekend watching old Law & Order: SVU episodes. I would tell anyone to get it!
FI got it as soon as it came out in Canada. And we are lovin' it! There aren't the newest movies but there are so MANY great ones that I never would have seen if it weren't for Netflix. I do like my Classics and chick flicks. FI is not keen on renting/d'ling those. Haha!
The quality is great for both sound and video. You definitely need a decent internet connection otherwise it will stop and try to buffer and that can really kill a movie and your mood!
We have it for 2 DVDs at a time (plus instant streaming and Bluerays) and we love it! For a while we were getting 3 DVDs at a time but we decided we didn't get through them fast enough so we recently dropped down to 2. DH and I both love it and have a really long queue of movies ready to go!
We love it! The instant streaming is awesome and we have it hooked up to our blu-ray player so win-win all around. :)
We've had it for a couple years and love it.
We have the plan that allows us to have 2 DVDs out at a time and free instant play.
We stream on our PS3 all the time and also have the free app for our iPhones.
We still rent videos at the store though once or twice a month. Sometimes we just feel like watching something that's not out on Netflix yet.
We pay $14.99/month for 2 dvds at a time + unlimited instant. I loooooove it! I like having 2 dvds at a time so I can get a new dvd every day. I send disc A back on Monday get a new one on Wednesday, send disc B back on Tuesday get a new one on Thursday, and so on and so forth. :)
I've also heard that they'll be all instant in the next few years.
i love it! we have been catching up on seasons that we never watched before.. and i agree with the other ladies about the instant streaming.. dont be expecting brand now movies.. but its good for the ones you never wanted to rent but still wanted to see.
also DH loves the documentarys... we also love when we have the niece & nephews over always good kid movies... and the actually have a wide selection.
we also get the 1 dvd and yes that does come really fast. I would recommend it, we will have it probably until trueblood comes back on then cancel it and get HBO back LOL
We don't have local/ cable etc. set up, so we only watch t.v. shows and movies online. We actually just switched to the Netflix streaming only package because we never would watch/ send back the movies. About a week ago, we set it up so that we can watch the streaming movies on our little t.v.
Overall: we've used Netflix for years and love it.
ME ME ME!! It just came to Canada, and the selection (i find) is still very limited, but we haven't rented movies/tv shows in 2 months. Ya can't beat $8/month for unlimited viewing. The only kicker is if you have a cap on your internet useage...you gotta watch you don't go over.
I love Netflix as well. We stream it live from our tv and also get dvds in the mail. Forget Blockbuster! We love it!
we do. we had it on hold forever and it just started again without us knowing. i was actually kind of upset because I don't have time to watch it right now and I didn't want to pay again. We had been using my parent's netflix subscription for free to get the instant streaming. Now we are paying again. I guess we'll keep it for this month since we already paid for it. Then we'll cancel it for good and use my parent's subscription just for the instant streaming. They never use it themselves.
If you have time to watch movies it is good. And the instant part is pretty good. I just wish they had more selection.
I actually like Family Video better than Netflix though. They had great deals when they opened up in my town. And I love going to the store and picking out a movie, just like the old days.
I had blockbuster and liked it because we could trade in our mailed in movies for in-store movies... then the did away with that and got annoyed and went to netflix. It is better but it does suck that new releases come out 28 days after retail and redbox gets it. I even tried redbox but if you forget to return the movie, it can get expensive and I don't know if you can get tv shows on redbox. My vote is for netflix!
I pay $13.99 a month and that's for 2 DVDs out at one time and unlimited exchanged throughout the month and plus instant streaming.
I didn't really dig Netflix that much. I prefer my local video store (family owned). DH liked Netflix because his favorite shows were instant stream - like Survivor Man and things like that.
We've been using it for a few days now and I'm in love. I decided to upgrade for $2 more and get one DVD at a time. They come super fast so I don't mind waiting a day to see a movie. I've been watching documentaries of all sorts...lurve! It's $10 a month well spent, cause ya know, I have no life and sit on my ass all day anyway.
I LOVE it and it's so much more cost-effective than driving to Blockbuster to rent movies at $5 a pop.
We have Netflix and I think it is seriously the best. thing. ever.
We have the 1-at-a-time plan in addition to the instant streaming and we have gotten rid of our cable. Who needs it when we can either instant stream from Netflix or download the shows we watch onto the PS3 anyway? Also, the more titles you rate, the better the suggested titles become. Once you've rated about 2000 titles, the recommendations really start to take off.
My husband and I plan to set this up once we get all moved into our new house. We have a wii/ps3 and plan to stream off of the internet on one of those.
I've been trying the free trial month for the last 2 weeks. I haven't been that impressed with it so far. I think it has the potential to be awesome, it just isn't there yet for us. One day hopefully. We're big movie watchers, so it'd be nice.
@MissHelen:they're adding a plan where you only have access to instant streaming movies. they recently made a very large deal to acquire the rights for more movies for instant streaming, they're not getting rid of dvd's and instant streaming will still be somewhat limited.
