Need some help here, Bees. I just met with a potential caterer last night, Adele’s Creative Catering in Media,PA, who seems to be REALLY affordable, offers everything we need and more at no extra charge, and all around seems too good to be true. At the tasting, the caterer was super nice, made us FANTASTIC food and 7 different cupcakes to taste, all for free. It seems like it’s too good to be true, and I was so excited when we left her house.
However, we noticed there were a few itty bitty red flags that make me wonder… is this REALLY too good to be true? I mean… her business is run from her house, which looked basically vacant with obviously brand new decorations, she requires the balance of the cost to be paid in full when the head count is due (a week before the wedding), AND I can find not a single legit review online, despite her being voted “Best Of” by The Knot in 2010 and 2011. Also, my fiance in his detective work can’t find any evidence of a business license, and her website domain is registered to a non-existant location. BUT none of that really means anything necessarily – we could just be really paranoid.
Anyway, I’m just trying to see if anyone has actually booked and used Adele’s for their wedding or knows someone who has. I’d just like to hear some real reviews from someone other than the caterer herself.

Even though I’m from the area I haven’t heard of or used them. But that doesn’t necessarily mean anything big. There are lots of small and fantastic caterers out there. The first big hurdles are out of the way – you liked the food and felt like you connected.
If you don’t get any responses on here, then it is absolutely valid and acceptable to tell her your concerns and ask for several references. And then call those references and ask everything you are concerned about. Granted, she will likely provide you those contacts who she knows have had positive experiences, but you will likely be able to get a vibe from them one way or another. She is a professional and she will understand – this is catering for a wedding that you’re talking about, so it’s a big deal for both you and her!

lol I was thinking Adele(the singer got married how did I not know I’m a huge fan and had creative catering!). clearly I am nuts. Just wanted to add, we are paying our most of our bill and giving head count two weeks out. I would ask her for her license we are having our wedding at venue that doesn’t provide food and they require that all carterers have a lincense and insurance. It does seem a bit fishy to me too.

@balex122: did you use Adele’s or get any feedback? We have an apt with her and wanted to see if you had any reviews.
