I received a job offer last week but it was contingent on me passing a background check. I am supposed to start on 11/10. The company uses an outside vendor for the background check. I hadn’t heard anything so I emailed the HR rep from the company that offered me a job for a status. She said they were working with the vendor to complete the check and noticed there were pending verifications. One was for a temp position I had 5 years ago. The other pending verification was for an unpaid internship I had in college. I told her the internship wasn’t paid, which I had also put in the vendor’s online application. All she asked me for was the W2 for the temp position I had, which I provided. Today, at 5:30 pm (happy weekend to me!), I received an automated email from the vendor asking for a W2 or 1099 from my internship. I tried to call the 1-800 # but no one answered so I left a message. I also contacted the HR rep via email for assistance.
Does anyone have knowledge of the hiring process? Can I fail the background check because of this unpaid internship being unverified? I’m sorta freaking out. I really need this job. I feel like it would be a silly reason for my offer to be rescinded and it doesn’t make me feel better that this is happening on a Friday night when I can’t do anything about it. So frustrating. I have never gone through something like this. The last company I worked for used the same vendor for the background check and I was never questioned and I didn’t even know the check was happening. I was offered the position and I started 2 weeks later. The process with the company I am dealing with now has been so intense. I just want it to be over. Any info you bees can offer me would be greatly appreciated.
Have a great Halloween!
