My girls all wore blue with red shoes. Different shades and styles, just whatever made them feel gorgeous and made their budget happy. I think they all looked fabulous!

I'm just having my BMs wear any knee lenght black dress they want, with purple shoes. They all have great taste!
My bridesmaids are all wearing different green dresses:
i tried to get them to shop around and look online for green dresses so that we wouldn't have to go to a bridal shop and pay bridal store prices, but only one girl did, and she ended up not liking the dress when it arrived. We ended up picking out these five dresses from the bridal store where I bought my wedding dress. They will all be picking out their own shoes, jewelry, etc, and I'm encouraging them to try to just use things they already have instead of buying new stuff.
My advice - you may want to give your bridal party at least some sort of guidelines. At least with my bridal party, they seemed to want me to direct them at least a little; no one seemed comfortable with just coming up with their own thing. I think they were afraid they'd pick something I wouldn't like and I wouldn't have the courage to tell them.
I've seen really cute wedding photography of more and more brides doing this. Bride picks a color family and their bridesmaid gets to wear any shade of that color. Great idea! I say do it!

Same dress, non-matching shoes. All will wear white shoes but whatever shoe they would like. One wants to wear flats, several want heels--I want them to be able to express themselves that way. I was open to different dress styles but they all liked the one, so we are doing the individuality in their shoes.
i also had an outdoor, garden style wedding. my girls (all 2 of them) wore their own little black dress. whatever they wanted as long as it was black. they loved it, especially since it didn't cost them an arm and leg. you could do matching jewelry as gifts if you want a sort of matchy matchy thing going on.
love the blue dresses btw!
We're also doing non-matching little black knee-length cocktail dresses. I just sent an email to them yesterday with some guidelines and they were all really excited about it.
I wanted them to choose their own dresses and feel comfortable, but I also wanted it to look cohesive in photos so I gave them some ideas and sent a bunch of pictures I found by searching for non-matching bridesmairds dresses in Google images.
They're all wearing the same length black dress with different colored shoes. :)
My BMs are wearing all different dresses! I am having them pick a lavendar dress from Alfred Angelo that is knee length or higher.
As for the shoes, they'll wear muted gold shoes...doesn't matter what height or style!
I had my girls pick out their own dresses, pink and flowery b/c that's what I love!

@Bubu82: That looks great!
We're considering doing mismatched greens as well and your picture is definitely helping to convince me. :)
I see nothing wrong with doing the mix match ideals, my bridemaids are wearing somthing different from my Maids of Honor and my Matron of honor is wearing something different.
Its your day, you can have what you want :)
that looks awesome. i'm not a big pink and flowery person and if i didn't see pics i would have thought "ew" lol your BMs picked out great dresses!

Hi Bees!
We've decided quite late in the game that we are now having a wedding party. LOL. OKay, so...the thing is that having them wear a certain dress and shoe isn't really my style right now-for the wedding we are having. We are getting married outdoors and then a hall rental but see....the guys will be in suits/tuxes. What can the girls wear? I am not sure what to do.
My dress is champagne over light gold. And we aren't having wedding colours. It's just a rustic styled reception with books, country junk type stuff....
Any ideas?
