I just graduated with my master’s degree in literature a little bit under a month ago. I’ve been applying to jobs for the last few months and one of the very few phone calls I have gotten back was about an inside sales position at a very reputable, up and coming company. I did an internship in grad school with an inside sales department, but the boss was not so great (no feedback, sent other people to ask me what I was working on when she was actually sitting in the office next to mine, etc.) and so I don’t really know if my experience there can be compared to what working that job for a living would be. So for those of you who are inside sales reps, what does a typical day look like? Do you enjoy your work? What are some pros and cons to it? If it is not too deeply personal, what type of pay would you say is common for someone who is just starting out in that field? Any other advice/words of wisdom?
FYI I really wanted to get into any type of writing position that would take me. No one has called me back and I’m starting to get some pressure from my parents about my lack of employment. I don’t want to just “take anything” unless I absolutely have to, but at the same time, I need to pay rent and feed myself.
