I found that non-maternity empire waist dresses as well as long skirts with not too tight elastic-band waists which you can pull over your belly (you can combine them with loose tops) can go a long way. I wore the skirts until I was 5 months along and the dresses up until 7 months, then the Fall came and I really needed a couple of warmer maternity dresses. Even now, 2 weeks before my due date, I am wearing non-maternity leggings with baby-doll tops and loose long sweaters and jackets.

I was able to wear a lot of my normal tops/dresses all the way through my pregnancy. I had to buy maternity pants at about 20 weeks. I bought a few pieces for work that I actually never ended up wearing because they always felt too baggy on me, baby was IGR so very tiny at birth and I never got very big.

BritishBride2015:  abreviation for intrauterine growth restricted, fancy term for small baby, she was not quite 5 pounds at birth so I think that maybe why I never got very large.
