Sometimes wedding planning can seem like a string of bad news and overwhelming to-do lists, and it can feel especially crazy and depressing when you read around the boards about the awful situations that some people are dealing with. Anybody care to share something delightfully wonderful that has happened in your little wedding-planning world lately?
I had the idea for this post when I was feeling down last week, like I was getting bad news on all planning fronts, then all in a row: 1) I found out that the amazing multi-award-winning wine at our venue is much much more affordable than we’d thought, so we get to serve it at our reception! 2) I found a bridesmaid shoe that I love in our color that is very affordable 3) FIVE of our old, close friends from college, whom we had not expected to be able to make it, told us they are planning on coming to the wedding!! (Yes, this is screwing with catering, rentals, pretty much everything, but I’m so freaking happy they’re coming that I don’t care about the details for now.)
What about you, what’s your serendipity lately? Share it so we can all be happy for you!

I knwo exactly what you mean…this wedding planning can get you down. But the high times are well worth it. I found out that my Officiant has been approved at our venue, we placed the deposit on our venue, and that I am getting my Save the Dates done for free! They will exactly as I wanted them done too. That’s all for this week.

Good idea for a post! It’s nice to making a list of things that are done and done the way that we want them to be.
-I finally decided to ask my sister to be a bridesmaid. She’s completely unpredictable for a number of very strange reasons and I was really torn for a while about asking her because I was so nervous that she would say no and then where would we be? But I asked her and she was really happy and said yes. We’ve also been exchanging more emails lately and I hope the wedding will help us become better friends.
-We have a caterer and one that we’re both so happy about! Better yet, my mother wasn’t mad at all when I told her that we’re not using her friend for catering (due to health problems of an unpredictable nature and me also being afraid this would be more of a stressful than helpful project for her). I was so anxious about what my mom would say that I put the conversation off for way too long, but now it’s fine.
-We visited hotels this weekend and picked our wedding night (and the night before, actually) hotel! It’s beautiful, we got a good rate, and I discovered that their room service and hotel restaurant are a place that I’ve been REALLY wanting to try. It’s going to be fabulous.
-We’ve set tentative dates for our delayed honeymoon and are planning it little by little by combing over a Lonely Planet guide each night before bed. 🙂

My latest thing is learning how to make fabric flowers!! I just made my first one last night and I was so psyched about them! Something so simple and easy made my day just like that!
Great post :]

I was really stressed about getting all the setting up done in the 2 hour alloted time that the venue rental gave us. So I asked the event coordinator if we could come in the day before and she said yes! I can breathe!!!

I won an auction at a local school for a haircut, coloring, and mani/pedi at a local hotshot salon. The package value was $265 and I won for less than half that!!

One of our groom’s men is taking a 12 hour flight and only staying for the weekend so he can be with us on our wedding day… he heart him…. hehe 🙂

We booked our LAX to Australia flights AGES ago at a super cheap rate and figured getting from the east coast to LA would be a snap. Not the case!! There’s only one crazy expensive (over $500 oneway!) daily flight from PIT where we’re getting married, and it gets to LAX too late to make our connection anyway. So then we planned on flying back to NYC (where we live) and roundtripping. The prices were over $400 then dropped to $300 2 months ago. By the time we agreed to purchase and picked flights, of course the price jumped back up. I’ve been cursing myself for the last fwe weeks that it was going to cost us the same amount to get from east to west coast as it was to get from LA to Australia because I dragged my feet. But alas! I got a Kayak Alert this morning that the nonstop roundtrip NYC to LAX was $327. Done & done!!

We went back to Jamaica to attend our friends’ wedding in the same venue – it was so uber sweet.

1- we FINALLY found a venue!! We have been looking for months and we hadn’t found one that we both liked, that fit the vibe we were going for, that could do both a ceremony and reception indoors, and that was in our budget. Then we found it, yay!
2- I decided on a photog and I’m so excited to book her!
3- I asked someone I know from school who is getting married several months before me if she’d like to trade DOC services and she was thrilled at the idea! Free DOC? woot woot!

These are all fantastic! @msicequeen How awesome! One of the old college friends I’m excited about who recently told us he can come is actually going to do graduate research in Switzerland for the entire summer; I was really sad when I first heard that because he’s one of my closest friends and I could not imagine our wedding day without him. Well it turns out that there’s a major conference in his research field in LA the DAY AFTER our wedding, so the school is happy to pay for him to fly from Switzerland to LA by way of Seattle, where we are. YAY! Could that be any luckier?
Here’s another small one: we were getting ready to shell out to rent these lovely glass beverage dispensers for our cocktail hour, but even though they were only $15 each, after all the delivery fees etc we were going to have to pay almost $100 for them. Our DOC told me she has a former client who owns some of these and is willing to provide them for free! Plus, she (the DOC) will pick up and drop them off!
