So I just saw the Mario Lopez/Courtney Mazza wedding special on TLC, and I was kind of surprised when the guests started clapping as each person came down the aisle. I have never seen this, and I found it kind of odd. Doesn’t it take away from the music and the peacefulness of the moment? Can any of you bees shed some light on this?

We only had clapping on the exit, I would think it’s kind of odd to do it in the beginning….

I saw this at a wedding once. Most of us thought it was inappropriate.

I know there wasn’t clapping as I walked down the aisle, and I don’t think there was clapping when we walked out…. but it was such a blur, I really wouldn’t remember.

LOL!! I was totally thinking the same thing when I watched this! I told FI it was more like a fashion show! I do not want this happening at my wedding

OMG I hope not. I would probably be all nervous and stupid and start doing the Miss America wave as a joke or something. I’ve never seen this in real life.

I’ve never seen clapping at the entrance! Rarely even clapping during the recessional.

As they walked in? I haven’t seen that before. Typically I see people clap at the first kiss/presentation of the couple, and sometimes during the exit.

That seems very.. inappropriate. The only time I have ever witnessed clapping was when the bride and groom kiss/are announced man and wife.

There was clapping in Petite_Fraise’s recap video during her processional. I had never seen it before and probably would have thought it odd, but it was beautiful in her video.

@BlondeBee: I just saw this last night too!!! It totally shocked me. Were they clapping because they’re celebrities?? I found it weird and needless to say, people will not be clapping during my entrance.

If anyone claps as I enter, I will stop in my tracks and stare them down untli they stop.
I am not there to put on a show. I chose a sacred (to me) location and spent months agonizing over the music selections, and I will be damned if I have that ruined because a grown-ass person lacks self control.
I suppose some brides might be ok with it, or even think it’s nice, but I very much do not!

In some Korean weddings I’ve been to, this has happened. I felt like it was so awkward but it’s normal to do. Thankfully, it didn’t happen at our wedding. LOL.
I’m not sure about other cultures though!

That makes me cringe like clapping between movements at a symphony or concerto.

I’ve always found it weird but at my wedding (and my brother’s, and my SIL’s), the guests only clapped when the parents walked. They clapped when the groom’s parents walked in the beginning of the processional, then clapped when the bride’s parents walked before the bride. Not so bad though, it was just a little weird but no one was bothered by it 🙂
