We did apple butter favors.  It cost us just over $100 in total to make somewhere around 140 jars.

ETA: We did the smaller jars

I love apple butter so I would really like to get that favor. Our favors are along the same lines, we’re doing mini jars of jam. I do home canning so considered making them myself. Once I priced everything out with the jars and ingredients it ended up being cheaper to buy premade ones.

I did some quick googling for apple butter, and it does seem like they are a lot more expensive than the jam I got. I got jam in cases of 60 jars (1oz each), for $25-30 each depending on flavor. The only little jars of apple butter I’ve seen so far are on etsy, and they’re much more expensive. In that case I think DIYing it would be less expensive, though more time consuming. Really the only way to figure that out is price it out based on how many you need.

@keevolpi:  I went to a November wedding where they did homemade apple butter and it was amazing! Best favor at a wedding I’ve been too so far! They were amazing!

She made them herself and put them in little mason jars. They were great 😀

@keevolpi:  We got the jars at either Meijer or Walmart.  I forget.  We did make it ourself.  It took about 6 hours to do everything.

@keevolpi:  Nope, we didn’t.  We just put fabric swatches on top to make them a little more decorative.

I did about 90 of the little jars for my October wedding this year. Its was roughly 80 for the jars, 30 for the apples, and maybe 15 for the spices. I created my own labels and that cost me $12. I ended up with a few large jars of extra apple butter too.

I made apple butter last year just because a friend and I went apple picking and I had a bunch of apples I had to do something with. I gave it all away as christmas gifts. Definitely make it yourself, I was shocked at how easy it was, AND how easy the canning process was.

For our wedding we bought jam that was local to the area we got married and re-jarred it into mini jars. Here’s the website I bought my jars from. Cost me 75 for… probably 150 I can’t remember:
