First, a bit of backstory. My SO and I were introduced through my best friend years ago. It was one of those situations where the guy likes the girl, and the girl continues to be oblivious until the universe grows impatient and fate forces them together. It was funny to hear the reactions from our friends when they found out we had started dating, “Finally! We all knew you two were perfect for eachother, we just never said anything because we knew it would happen eventually.”
Recently I’ve come to the realization that apples are a reaccuring theme in our relationship. One of our first dates consisted of apple picking and then going home to bake a most delicious apple pie, he wrote a song for us called “Appleblossom” (which you can listen to here: https://soundcloud.com/10miles/appleblossom-feat-andrew), and lastly his proposal took place at… you guessed it, the orchard! We had talked about getting married before, being young and not having been together for a long time a proposal wasn’t something that could happen without discussion. But when you know, you know. So he talked to my father, started ring shopping, and continued to drop hints until I just couldn’t stand the suspense any longer. I was under the impression that this wouldn’t be happening for at least a few months, “The ring is being custom made, I’m expecting it to take awhile.” So when he asked me to go for a drive with him, I expected it to be just another late night cruise. He made a comment on how clear the sky was, and so I suggested we go stargazing at our favorite spot, the apple orchard. After watching the stars, swinging on the swingset, and making a game of jumping off of them, I wandered over to the fence to look out at the apple trees. They were still bare, and I made a comment at how they looked kind of “beautifully gangled.” I was waiting for him to come up and wrap his arms around me from behind. Instead I heard him softly say, “Hey” to get my attention. When I turned around, there he was on one knee, holding a little velvet box. And he said just four words, “Will you marry me?” I was so shocked I couldn’t even cry! I just kept asking if this was really happening until he said, “Soooo, is that a yes?” It wasn’t until we got back in the car that I got a good look at the ring. It’s rose gold with a square cut black diamond. So so perfect. We didn’t get any proposal pics because it was just us and it was dark out. But here is a pic of the ring and a funny after-engagment pic of us.
