The corporate office for a large footwear company is super close to my apartment and I’ve gone on their website to apply for jobs but haven’t gotten anywhere. Would it be weird/off-putting to walk to the Corporate Office and ask to give my resume to HR? I feel like I need to do something to stand out! Any tips?

@evergladebee: I think it’s worth a shot! I know our HR department just tells walk-ins they can apply online, though 🙁

If you do it once and simply drop your resume off with reception, it’s fine. It might not get you any further, but it isn’t weird or off-putting. At the video game company I used to work in HR for, we’d have people coming multiple times to drop off their resumes, or demanding to speak with hiring managers…that stuff is guaranteed to put you at the bottom of the pile.

I don’t think it would hurt, however I work in HR and when people apply in person we have them do it in the lobby with security, not the HR department. The applications are passed to us from security later. Every company is different, though. Have you tried going through a staffing agency? A lot of staffing agencies can get through to the HR department faster than you can. Good luck!

Thank you all for responding so quickly and for all the tips! I pretty much figured that getting into HR would be impossible but I guess it won’t hurt to at least drop the info off with a receptionist/security. Thanks again!!
