My first shower is in a few weeks.  Should I bring a gift to the shower itself for the hostess?  Or send/bring something over the week after?  Like sending flowers?

She has very particular taste in wine, so that's out.  I am blanking on other ideas.

I brought gifts to mine but I gave them to the hostesses after the guests had left.  I gave pretty beaded bracelet and necklace sets (I had 5 hostesses at that shower.)

I never even thought about it! I guess I'll have to start looking around...

Either option is good. For mine, I ended up bringing gifts to the shower because I knew there would be a time either before the shower or afterwards where I could give them the gifts without making a huge production out of it. Meaning, I could give them a hug and tell them how much I appreciated their work and thoughtfullness without doing it in front of the guests. So, just think about the timing of that day and how you can make it work. If it makes more sense to send an orchid the following week, certainly do that.

As for what to give them, I would just think about their personal interests. If they have a green thumb (and maybe no cats?) an orchid is fabulous. If they are into baking, a cookbook would be nice. For my two showers, I ended up with a gourmet theme because that's what the hostesses were into. For one, I got a basket of premium baked goods that she could share with her husband. For the other two, I ended up baking biscotti and granola, and put it in a basket with cute kitchen linens and a candle. Whatever you come up with will be great.
