I think it's more important that the song has meaning to you. A lot of people choose songs that aren't really "Yay wedding." Like Mariah Carey's "I'll Be There" which is about exes, or the Police "Every Step You Take" which is about a stalker or Edwin McCain's "I'll Be" which features the word "suicide" so prominently in the lyrics. But if the song brings tears to your eyes, then do it! (I think someone here mentioned that they danced to an AC/DC song??)
I don't think it's a problem -- the most important thing is that the song is important to the two of you.
I have a similar issue with the song that I would like to use for our processional. It's a beautiful song and has the perfect cadence for a slow walk, but the lyrics are not entirely appropriate. (although, most of the worse lyrics are further into the song than I plan to go). I suppose I'll ask a few friends to listen to it and see what they think.
I absolutely *love* this song! I think it would be a fresh and unique choice, especially if it's special to you. Have you seen the Free Hugs Campaign video?
I love that song! It seems a lot more like a *real* love song to me, than some of the cheesy, unrealistic stuff that's out there. Definitely go for it if it suits you!
My first dance song is by Flight of the Concords called "The Most Beautiful Girl (in the Room)".
The lyrics say "You're so beautiful, you could be a waitress, or an air hostess in the 60's, or a part time model" or something very similar. We think its funny, and a good way to break from the serious and sentimental ceremony.
I say go for the song that makes your moment perfect for you. Ours is to laugh!
Awesome song choice! There's absolutley no reason to chose a different song just to go along with the status quo. This is YOUR day - do what moves YOU.
We haven't decided on our song yet, but I really like this one!

My fiance are trying to pick a first dance song and have a few really great choices, however, our FAVORITE song that we both adore and touches us both is "All the Same" by the Sick Puppies (youtube it). A couple of the lyrics that we love are...
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 13px; -webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 2px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 2px">I dont care, no I wouldn't dare... <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 10px; -webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 0px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 0px"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 13px; -webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 2px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 2px">To fix the twist in you
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 13px; -webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 2px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 2px">And I'll take you for who you are... If you take me for everything
My question is, there are SOME lyrics that not 100% "yay WEDDING!".... is it better to choose a song that you both connect to or one that has perfect wedding lyrics?
It's a really heart-felt song... we're just both on the fence with it.
Thanks!
