We have booked our ceremony and reception site, caterers, photographers. I found my gown and my FI bought his suit. We also are starting to put together our website and will be sending out our Save The Dates this month.
Next on our list is securing the entertainment (that's FI part of the planning). We aren't going to get a wedding planner since our ceremony, reception, and catering is all-in-one (and we get an event manager to help coordinate all that).
In the fall, I'll start to think about the flowers, invitations.
We've booked the venue, purchased invites and save the dates, I got my dress and one of my hair pieces. I've finished my centerpieces, place cards and guestbook table. I've also started negotiating with the photographer and DJ.
Oh wow...you ladies are waaay ahead of me!! maybe I should get a move on!
Just a note that we've been engaged since March 2009, so I've had A LOT of time to plan hehe ;)
We've booked our Wedding Planner/Florist, Venue (Ceremony and Reception), Photographer, Videographer, DJ & Lighting, Photo Booth, Hotel Block and Send Off Brunch, set up the wedding website, ordered my dress and picked out the BM dresses (won't order till October).
Made the save the dates, just waiting on engagement pictures (which will be taken this Friday) to make a magnet. We'll send them out in August. Completed some mock ups of DIY things like the Invites, Menus, Table Names, OOT boxes, Favor boxes. Painted the letters for our cake table and signs for decor.
We just got engaged in 12/09 but we are footing everything ourselves so we've made a plan to have everything done and paid for two months before the wedding.
And since my family about 7 1/2 hours away I only go home 2-3 times a year. So I'm trying to squeeze all my major purchases in when I'm in my hometown with my parents and sister.
We have booked Venue, photographer, videographer, Caterer, Makeup, DJ, Minister, Florist. I ordered my dress too.
My Save the dates are completed too just need to finalize our guestlist and when I get back home I will be sending those. Then my focus will be on letterpressing the invitations.
We have booked our ceremony and reception venues, organised our photographer and organised our celebrant. We also have purchased everything for our decor. We are paying for everything ourseves with a small bit of help from my mum and dad so we are tryig to get as much paid for now so we aren't flat broke just befor ethe wedding.
We've booked the ceremony & reception site (same place), I've been dress-shopping 2x (but still deciding :), I've chosen and ordered the BM dresses, 1st draft of guest list is done... and I think that's it for now... I'm also a *long distance bride* so I'm planning to get things done in little bursts when I travel home. Also we've done a lot of research- eg finding 3 of each vendor we like and that's within our price range & plan to interview in person to choose.
yipes. you guys are making me feel like a huge slacker. all i've got settled is the church..still deciding between two reception venues. I thought STDs weren't supposed to go out until closer to the 6 month mark so people don't lose them/forget. am i misinformed?
Don't feel like a slacker.. In my case I had to get the ball rolling on things I needed to get done because I am deployed to Afghanistan right now. As for Save the dates You can send them out anytime in my opinion. We are sending ours out in August when I get home because It doesn't make sense for us to send them out 6 months early.
I don't plan on sending out my STDs until at least August since we have a large amount of people coming from out of town. I ordered them now since they were being designed by the same woman who was doing the invitations.
I have absolutely nothing booked due in part to my FI lack of enthuasism. We've been engaged for five months now, and his lack of enthuasism was driving me crazy. But now that we've decided on a destination wedding, he's considerably more interested now. I'm hoping to have our Ceremony venue booked by Memorial day when we announce our plans our parents!
We got engaged April 8 of this year and are very close to booking some things, but that's all. The wedding itself is April 1, and it is going to happen in Vegas. We're spending our honeymoon driving cross-country to Pittsburgh, where my family lives, for a reception the following weekend. Then we'll have another, less formal party a few weeks later for his family/our friends here in NJ.
We think we have the Vegas chapel/wedding package picked out, we have our transportation and honeymoon plans mostly figured out, and I think I know what I want as far as a dress. But we haven't actually booked anything.
I am impressed by those of you who have managed to get so much done already! I've done lots of searching for Pittsburgh reception venues, but nothing has worked out yet. I am somewhat concerned that I have already taken too long to find a place, and that my reception will therefore involve Dominos Pizza in my parents' living room. However, my guilt at turning from Laid Back Girlfriend into Stressball Bride around my FI and parents in the space of a month has finally overtaken this concern, so I'm trying to move into Zen Bride mode instead. On the plus side, I definitely know where I want my cupcake tree to come from.
My FI, awesome dude that he is, has taken charge of the details for the NJ party. We think we know where we want it to be and where we want to get the food from. It's a lot easier planning something like this in a place you actually live!
I've only booked the venue (same for ceremony and reception) but we're now really close to booking catering/flowers/rentals (all from one company). I'm trying to get FH to finalize something with a photographer friend of his but he's been busy at work and hasn't gotten around to it yet... :\
We're using an Ipod/laptop for music so unless we can find a really good, cheap DJ, that is what we are going with for now. We have tons of musician friends so ceremony music is covered, we just have to pick which friend to ask.
FH used to work at a print shop AND is a graphic artist so he's in charge of invitations but we haven't even started thinking about those yet. We are probably doing email Save the Dates, and send those out around October.
Wow, I can't believe how far all you ladies are in your planning!
My date is April 2, 2011 and all I have done is book a photographer and buy a gown. :) I think we have decided on our ceremony and reception sites, but have yet to secure them. We have NO idea what we are going to do for food!!!!!!
I have also already asked my bridesmaids to be in my wedding. That's about it. I totally don't feel stressed though. I feel like 309 days is plenty of time to get all of it done. :)
OK ladies...as of today (05/31/10) we have booked: a photographer, a wedding band (music), ceremony and reception venue. I have found my dress and bought it and have two catering companies that we are going to tastings of next week (both have our wedding dates reserved for us until we choose one) we are also meeting with an officiant soon and trying to schedule a cake tasting. I have also asked all my bridesmaids to be in the wedding and am researching dresses for all of them.
Up next: Reserving hotel blocks for out of town guests and finding a ceremony musician.
is there something major im missing?
We have: booked venue for ceremony/reception (which includes food/alcohol), bought my dress (love it!), purchased bridesmaid dresses, booked photographer, DJ, taking engagments pics this week. i've picked out STD's and invites. Still need to find/decide on an officiant. Sounds like we're all pretty much on the right track! People keep saying, "oh, you have time!" but not really!
sounds like we're all on pace! I've got the venue and ceremony site picked out, and got our officiant, band, and photographer. I've been putting off dress shopping though...i've put a bit of weight on recently and am not looking forward to feeling gross and huge. however, i did made up my table numbers and started doing these mini-paintings i'm going to use as part of my centerpieces. :)
Wow! A lot of you have already nailed down a lot for your upcoming day! We just got engaged last month and have discussed a wedding venue (hopefully we can get it), looked at some potential photographers, and have a rough idea of our guest list.
We plan on doing a lot of DIY so I'm currently looking for ideas, as well as checking garage sales and craigslist ads for some of the items we might need. I've also started a wedding savings account because we're not sure how much our families will contribute.
Guess I better get the ball rolling!
@islandwed-you have 4 more months than us to plan!! so dont stress out too much :) I think the most important at this point for you is just getting your venue for your ceremony and reception...and the rest you can just put together slowly :) it sounds like you are on the right track with everything!
We have"
Booked ceremony and reception venue (Includes food and drinks)
Book DJ
Book Photographer
Book Photobooth
Pretty much have the guest list done
Bought our invites (DIY kit)
FI's friend is our officiant (he's legit)
My moms friend is going to do our hair.
Bought almost all items for centerpieces
Working on DIY projects: Guest book, table numbers, escort cards, bird card cage, coffee filter roses and more to come.
Need to meet with another baker and make a decision.
We have had our venue and photographer since March. We got some crap from people for doing things early. However I am not stressed out, I am able to do some research before making decisions, plus where we live certain venues fill up fast.
Good Luck Girls!
I'm pretty far along. I've heard too many horror stories of brides waiting until the last minute to do too many things. I've done the following:
-Booked venue/caterer
-Chosen menu
-Booked DJ
-Booked photographer (a friend ... no brainer!)
-Bought dress
-Talked to a few officiants (can't meet with them until I'm back in AZ in September)
-Tenatively decided on a certain classical guitarist for the ceremony
-Done first draft of the save-the-dates
-Decided on tenative table decor/centerpieces, but haven't done a mock up or anything yet
Currently I have:
-Ordered my dress
-Booked Venue for Reception & Ceremony
-Booked DJ
-Booked Celebrant
-Booked Photographer
-Ordered Cake
-Ordered Wedding Band
-Booked Hairdresser
In 2 weeks I am going bridesmaid dress shopping and am getting flower quotes done.
I have ordered my dress and received it, booked the venue for ceremony and reception (at the same place...they also do the catering and dj), booked the cake, the photographer, and completed the first draft of the invitation list. Working on save the dates. We just bought a house so I'm trying to tie in New Address notices with the Save the Dates.
As of today:
Booked venue (ceremony and reception the same place)
Booked caterer/rentals/centerpiece arrangement (one company for all those services)
Chose most of the menu (waiting on recommendations for appetizers)
Booked officiant
Booked photographer/photobooth
Close to picking invitation suite
To do: Cake, Dress, wedding bands
No reservations needed: Music (iPod reception and friends for ceremony), Hair (friend), Makeup (DIY or at the MAC counter)
DIY not yet done: guestbook, bouquets, save the date emails, aisle decor, seating chart
I know most you gals already have a dress but I'm hoping to lose a little weight before I get mine, plus my mom is out of the country until Sept and I want her to be there with me. Do you think Sept is way too late to go dress shopping?
@kwago: I really think it depends on which dress you want from which store...i know mine is custom made and is going to take about 5 months to come in...i was in no rush when I ordered it...my dress is supposed to be here by october and I think thats plenty of time for my April wedding...but i have also seen bees order and have their first fitting in 3 months or less. but i would def start looking ASAP so that you have time to search and dont feel rushed!
I have the venue (reception and ceremony at the same place)
Caterer
DJ
My Dress (by the end of the weekend, I've got 2 different ones on hold!)
STD's sent Wed
"Guest book" (doing ornaments)
Centerpieces picked
Photographer
Officiant (my aunt)
Booked our honeymoon and did honeymoon registry
2 cake tastings scheduled for Oct
Meeting all 3 florist candidates in the next two weeks
I'm trying to get the big stuff out of the way before the holidays...
So far we have:
ceremony set - priest, singer, organist, etc all together
reception place & caterer -- cake is included
ordered my dress
booked photographer
booked makeup artist
had my bridesmaids order their dresses
met with the florist that we are going with
booked DJ
started making our centerpieces
picked out the hotels for out of town guests - need to still book rooms at them
-- Only thing I'm really worried about is booking our engagement pics so I can get my STD's out!! They are included in our photography package.
Has any other April brides not sent them out yet? I read somewhere that you should get them out 4 months before the wedding, and then invitations are 2 months later.. so that calmed me down a bit.
Oh boy I have SO much to do yet! I was so gunho to start and then it became stop and go...and now there's just over 6 months til my day! Ack! haha.
I do have:
Still need to finalize - errrr!
So many things still to happen...sigh! I hope I get it figured out soon! :)
Gosh looking at these lists makes me realize how much I have left to do!!
Here is what I have done:
- booked venue for ceremony/reception
- booked hotel rooms for quests
- booked officiant
- paid for my dress (just waiting for it to come in!)
- invitations
- wedding website (for details regarding our trip)
- picked out the cake
- consulted with hair/makeup artist (haven’t booked yet!)
- began looking at flowers, bouquets, etc.
Here's what I sill need to do!!:
- find groom/groomsmen suits
- buy gifts for bridesmaids
- find bridesmaids dresses
- find flower girl dress/basket/flower petals
- book photographer
- buy favours
- select the food menu (we already have a price range selected)
- dress fitting & alterations
- accessories
- etc. etc. etc.
GOOD LUCK ALL!

Got lots done and lots left to do.. Less than 6 months to go!
We're planning an April 30th wedding and have the following items already under our belt:
Ceremony & reception venues, photographer, engagement pictures, wedding dress purchased, wedding party chosen, bridesmaids dresses picked (won't order until late December), hair appt booked, DIY projects underway, beginning stages of invitation design (still debating Save the Dates), partial registries, ceremony written, DJ, and I'm sure there are a few other small items. I'm an accountant, so we're trying to get as much taken care of before tax season as we can in order to make life a little easier :)

Just wondering where everyone is with their planning....I have already booked my venue for the ceremony and reception...and am currently interviewing wedding planners...I am also in the process of putting together a guest list...
What have you done so far?
