Okay, so I *finally* got word from my BF to send over styles that I like. There will be no shopping together, but he wants an idea of what I like. In researching, I found an Aquamarine/Diamond ring that I *love*.

My question for all of you Bees is - what do you think of a non-diamond e-ring?
I'm a fan. ;)
There's a massive thread in the Rings forum with tons of non-diamond erings. Mrs. Octo has a gorgeous aquamarine you should check out!
ETA: Here's the thread!
Wow, that's gorgeous! I have a garnet e-ring and love it--don't let naysayers get you down.

I also thought an aquamarine and diamond ring would be great.
FI ultimately picked a diamond ring.
I love aquamarine though (I have a march bday) I say go for it.
Love the aqua ring! You can always replace the center stone with a diamond later if you so choose.
Wow that's gorgeous! I love the pave diamonds - I would definitely send it to your SO!
I LOVEEEEEEEEEEE AQUAMARINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, it's my favorite stone! I think you should go for it!
That ring is a stunner! I've seen SO many gorgeous non-diamond e-rings on here.
The importance of the e-ring is what it symbolizes, not what it is made of. And it is something you are going to wear for the rest of your life. If you want a different stone, you should have it!
Diamond e-rings only became the standard in last century when DeBeers had a huge marketing campaign around diamonds. Prior to that all gemstones were fair game for e-rings.
Go with what you love.
Beautiful! I really like how the halo is also aquamarine, most of the time the halo is made of diamonds.
*sigh* Leave it to me...that ring is a discontinued style, they don't have it in any of the stores, and they only have ONE left through the online catalog.
SO will have the following lovely email when he wakes up:
"Okay, so the more I looked at the Aquamarine and Diamond ring from Jared, the more I fell in love with it. I tried calling a few stores to see if any had it in stock so I could see it in person, and encountered a *huge* FAIL. It's a discontinued style, they don't have any in any of the stores, and the website only has ONE available for order...super sad panda face!! :("
@FlutterbyBee: Just because the store doesn't have it, doesn't mean he can't take the image to an independent jeweler and have it made.
Do you like something like this?
I'm all for the different e-rings. I kinda wish I had a pink diamond or atleast rose gold.
@KatNYC2011: I "LoL"ed at your comment...that's not his style. His style is waiting until Christmas Eve to buy Christmas presents...his style is asking me the day before, "Hey, what do you want for your birthday tomorrow?" A wonderful suggestion, though...I'll keep it under my hat... ;)
@FlutterbyBee: That's my FI's style too... He ordered all his Christmas presents 2 days before Christmas on amazon w/ 2 day shipping.
But for the ring, he took time to research and find the ring I wanted as well as pick the stone separately from the setting. Sometimes those boys surprise you.
Thanks for all of the GREAT pics, Bees! I think the reason I fell in love with the one I did is because it has a "Titanic" flair to it...you have to look at the pictures from Jared to get the full feel of the ring. It has Aquas around the outside of the setting too...
I'll keep looking, and hope that he gets the hint and goes ahead and gets it while he has time!!
Love colored gemstones!! Miss Octo's is one of my favorites and here is mine.. It's a sky blue topaz.

My favorite Aquamarine ring is the Tiffany legacy.

It is pricey, but I am sure that there are good replicas out there if budget is a concern.
I totally would have had one for an ering, but didn't do much research before hand. Now I'd like one for a right hand ring!
Mine is tanzanite, its only the diamond industry that says a e-ring HAS to be diamond, give me a break!
But on a practical side diamond is good since its so strong. I have to take mine off all the time to do anything.
@SoontobeMrsA: me too!! and the price rocks! It was less than $200!!!!! i was a little uncomfortable with the size when i first got it, now it doesn't even feel that big lol!
@indecisive_bride_2012: omg mine too! it definitely was my dream ring!
Thanks for all of the feedback, Ladies! I'm going to throw caution to the wind and start looking at Aquas...
On a side note, I was rather disconcerted to see Google pull up this post while I was searching for "Aquamarine and Diamond Rings"... O.o
@crebre80: Where did you get yours, again? I know you've posted it before, but I can't seem to remember. I love it!
@FlutterbyBee: Lol @ O.o
It's annoying when Google puts weddingbee threads as one of the top searches.
An e-ring can have any stone on it you want. The diamond "tradition" was created by De Beers and is bollocks.
@panterapeach: I love it too, lmao
My husband got my aqua ring from an estate dealer. Do some research; there are a lot of options!
MasterGoldCraft on Etsy does TONS of aquamarine rings. I have about 10 of them in my favorites list!
@sarahlarner: You beat me to it! Stephen at Mastergoldcraft on Etsy did my ring in Morganite, but he has a HUGE stock of loose stones and if you browse his bridal settings, he can do pretty much anything that you like. He was great to work with, we had a couple of delays while he worked hard to get the wedding band to sit flush with the e-ring, which he knew was important to me. It's the holiday season and I'm sure he was busy. Once the ring arrived, I couldn't have been more pleased.
I posted a pic of it on my finger so you can get an idea of the size. It's hard to tell from his site and I wasn't sure what to expect, but it's perfect! Mine is the 10x8mm stone.
It's gorgeous with the wedding band...I tried it on again last night. :) I think that I'll ask FI to have another eternity band made for our first anniversary.
I wanted an aquamarine for an engagement ring also! My plan was to find a diamond setting I liked and have a super light blue aquamarine put in it instead of a diamond.
I was also considering a ring from lord and taylor by a brand called Effy. It was fairly inexpensive (compared to many engagement rings) at about $1000. i havent been able to find any pictures of it, but the stone looked about 1 carat in size, and had three smaller diamonds in a cluster on either side. Not knowing what I was looking at it for, the saleswoman also commented it looked like a good engagement ring. Here is another aqua by that brand http://www.lordandtaylor.com/eng/brands/search/jewelryaccessories-lordandtaylor/6260
We wound up getting a ring with a blue diamond, but I would have been just as happy with an aqua.
I realized tonight on the way home from work that a Diamon/Aqua combo would be BOTH of our birthstones - Aqua for March (me) and Diamond for April (SO)...BRILLIANT!!
