Long story short: DF has been having issues with groomsmen dropping out due to conflicting schedules; PCSing, schooling, and being underway have robbed him of multiple groomsmen/guests. While upsetting, it is also completely understandable. Unfortunately, those people who can’t make it were going to be part of the honor guard doing the arch of swords as we left the church. The arch of swords is something that both DF and I feel very strongly about having at our wedding. Heck, it is one of the main reasons that we are doing a military wedding!
As it stands we have 1 person who has sent in a positive RSVP and 3 that have told us verbally they are coming but haven’t sent the cards back yet. (the due date was this 1 August). If I remember correctly, you need at least 6 people to do the arch. So right now we need at least 2, if not 5 people to round out the honor guard!
The problems with finding people to do it?
1. We are getting married in Ohio even though he is stationed in Jax, FL which means that people from his ship have to travel, which is why shipmate turnout is so poor.
2. There are no Navy bases in Ohio.
3. The closest NROTC is over 3 hours away.
4. I have called both the enlisted and officer recruiters but no one seems to be around to answer phones and/or return messages. Seriously! 3 days and multiple calls NO ONE PICKS UP! No one calls back!
Anyone going to be in NEOhio around 21 August that wants to participate in the honor guard? (BYOSword but free dinner and dancing!)

Does his ship have a family coordinator or someone who can maybe put him in touch with shipmates from Ohio he may not know? I don’t know what ship he’s on, but some of them have thousands of sailors 🙂 Maybe there’s some people he doesn’t know that may be up for going home?
Also, I’ve seen them done with 2-4 people…

As for family coordinator? Yeah, I am good friends with her…and well, his ship has less than 200 sailors on it. In fact, one of them is from pretty close to where we are getting married so she is turning it into a family visit/party weekend!
I was always under the impression that you needed at least 6…3 on each side. I guess I need to go back and check the regs! It would be awesome if that is the case. 🙂
