Do you get tired of it?  I mean you make one bad comment once or twice and then you are monitored forever on the blog.  Gets kind of old.  It's like there are no second chances!

@amariem25: Ha ha. What did you do? I don't think I've been flagged on the board nor do I think I'm being monitored.

Do you have to put in a security code or something? Or does it just take a while for your comment to upload?

whenever I make a comment on the blog it doesn't post right away and instead it says "your comment is being monitored"  And then it might post hours later.

Really!?  I have never heard of that.  You said you made a bad comment one time, If you don't mind me asking, what was the circumstance?

There was an issue with your comments where you were leaving a number of personal atacks on posts by the blogging bees...  is that what you were referring to about leaving bad comments once or twice?  I think it happened a couple of dozen times actually.

Anyway we are really protective of our bloggers, who are volunteers and are really putting themselves out there by blogging their hearts out for all to see.  So if a commenter is consistently bagging on our bloggers, then we will sometimes that user's blog comments for manual review before posting - it sounds like that's what happened here.

If it's any consolation, I think you're the only commenter who has ever left so many personal attacks and not just been banned.  The mystery here is that you are pretty nice on the boards!  So it's a bit unclear to me why you have left so many harsh personal attacks on posts by our bloggers?

As an aside, I believe we also had some issues with your account where you were promoting your etsy store on the boards and gallery.  Those didn't play a factor in this decision though.

I'm not sure how I would know. I was flagged for one comment a few weeks ago, but before I was even flagged I apologized for it. In my PM they said that they knew I apologized but they had to take the comment off anyway. Does that mean I'm being monitored too? Unless it effects me in a big way I don't mind.

If you did what Mr.Bee said you did, than I think you totally deserve to be monitored. It's not really a big deal, your comment still gets posted it just takes a while.

I think people confuse giving honest opinions with attacking.  The bees always ask questions at the end of their posts and I give honest opinions.  But I guess that gets lost in translation on the internet.  Nevertheless, I don't think things that I said a year ago should be held against me still.  There are no second chances here.

You're being given the world's biggest second chance!  You can still post to the blog... the editors just review your comments before they go live.

Seems like a fair compromise, given how harsh your past comments have been!

I do see both sides, seriously.  I don't agree with either side, because I understand both.

Sometimes peoples opinions can be harsh; I've noticed that most bees on here, when they disagree or have a different opinion then others are VERY apologetic when saying it, because it seems to smooth easier.  There are so many different personality types on these boards, you'r never sure when something will offend or not.  So apologizing and sugar coating your opinion (while STILL saying your opinion) helps that.

And I appreciate the moderators for maintaining the site to prevent it from turning into another TK : shudders :

But, if an "offender" has been good for quite a few months, even a year ... wouldn't it be good to give them that second chance?  I'd hate to be moderated, realize my wrong doings, and 5 yrs later I'm still on the "watch post" list.  (get it, like "no fly" list?)  lol Sorry, had to "smooth" this post over.  lol

    Just sayin ... IMO .... :)

@amariem25: Depending on your definition of "a bad comment," things like that can really hurt people's feelings. I tend to think that comments on blog posts can sometimes be FAR more negative than anything I've seen on the boards. I got a comment on a blog post something like seven months ago (not from you) that upset me so much and hurt my feelings so badly that I can still remember it almost word for word. It really stung. That stuff matters.

Regardless, your comments are only monitored, not outright blocked, so all it means is that someone personally reviews them before they go up on the post. As with the boards, you can be honest on the blog, just not deliver attacks. So as long as you're not delivering attacks, no harm no foul, right?

Wow now Im really curious as to what you posted! My comments have never been monitored, but I assume that is because I only leave positive feedback for people - especially the blogger bees. If I don't like something, I will either not comment or try to comment in a really polite way.

I really don't know what I posted that was so offensive.  I guess I probably had some bad days at school back in the day and took my anger out on the 'bee.  But I don't remember what I said and I don't think I've done anything harsh on the blog lately.

@mrbee: Oh I see now, I was posting my comment while you were posting yours... so I didn't see the reasoning or what happens when you're monitored until afterwards. I'm glad you're protective and I'm glad that you initially give people second chances. Because if I was flagged once and was monitored then I would be pretty sad. Newbees need time to realize what's good and what's not good in this specific board. In my opinion, you do give second chances, you gave me one :)

@AmuseMeMusically: One of your comments may have been monitored because a certain post/thread/blog was being monitored at the time. Think of it this way, if there have been many nasty comments on one thread, then the moderators may choose to monitor whoever decides to post a comment on that thread from thereafter (not all your posts, just for that one thread). When I was flagged I was involved on a thread where there were tons of nasty comments... they ended up just closing the thread all together. But this could be an answer to your question.

@amariem25: I'm glad you're watching your comments now (as am I). And I'm also glad you're not letting this monitor thing deter you from commenting at all. As long as we're getting along I'm glad you're here, even if it does take a while to see what you wrote. :)

@PitBulLover: I've been trying to do this as well. If I don't have a positive comment I try really hard to not say anything. Sometimes that means I'm in the middle of typing and just ex-out of the whole thread. Baha! It'll take some time but in the long run it's so much better to just be nice about things. Unless of course, everyone is reaming a bridesmaid or somebody that the OP is reaming as well. (As long as it's not like completely offensive).

@kperry3: Mr. Bee has nothing to do with the monitoring of her comments on the blog actually, so he has nothing to do with second or or even third chances for that matter.

@kperry3: I'm the one that takes care of comment moderation on the blog and am happy to answer any questions about it :) I assure you that I don't "confuse giving honest opinions with attacking." I do believe I have the ability to distinguish between the two. I'm confident most members will agree, as there are currently no other active members on Weddingbee that are in permanent comment moderation (or at least none that have tried to comment within the last 3 months or so). It's not something we take lightly.

It still just seems odd to me that there is this warning system set up on the boards where moderators will message people if they are doing something wrong.  However there is nothing like that set up for the blog.  I never received any messages saying a comment I left that day was bad and they deleted it and I have been warned.  This makes it very hard for me to know which comments I left that were bad.  And therefore I have no idea how many "chances" they actually gave me because I received no warning whatsoever.  I just started getting moderated one day.

@amariem25: As has been previously stated, the boards and the blog have separate moderation teams. Yes, we're all on the same team if you go far enough up, but choose to use different moderation strategies. If you have a question about blog moderation, I think it would be simplest for you to PM Mrs. Penguin and ask her directly, since she has let you know that she is the one who handles blog comment moderation.

I think the system is pretty fair actually. I know I was warned once, but I deserved it. I didn't take my own advice of not taking things personal and I didn't respond politely to my attacker.

But good thing I was warned, because I calmed down and haven't lost it since. And I hope the same exact thing happens to everyone else who gets warned or flagged. Just like when you get pulled over for speeding, you should thank the cop instead of arguing with him because he is making the roads safer for everyone :)

@missfireslayer: LOL. Just wanted to clear up any falsities! :)

@daydreamwanderer: Amariem25 and I have had a series of communications over this topic via PM. Moderation strategies differ because the blog and the boards are run on two seperate platforms (bbpress and wordpress). Blog commenters are only placed in moderation after repeated violations of one, two, or both of our comment policy rules.

@amariem25: I thought I was pretty clear in our past communications that there is no system of "unmoderating" commenters that have, at any time in the past, made a habit of attacking/snarking the blogging bees. I'm sorry that despite repeated personal attacks on bees and blatant self promotion, you feel that our moderation policies are unfair, but they've been highly effective to promote constructive communication on the blog. Really, we only have two basic policies: no personal attacks and no promotion of your shops...see Mr. Bee's earlier comment for clarification, and for a review of our guidelines you can visit this link: http://www.weddingbee.com/comment-policy/). I've updated the text regarding your concerns, and I hope that it clears up any residual questions you have. You're free to continue to PM/email me on the subject (or continue discussion here) if you prefer.

@kperry3: If that's how it works, then there's a very good possibility that that's what happened. I've been involved in a number of threads that have gotten so bad they've gone away entirely.

@Lillindy: Oh ok... I don't know who monitors. It seemed like he did from his comment. Either way, somebody gave me a second chance.

@penguin: Oh I do remember the message being from you. So all the I said to mrbee... that's for you. And I admit my comment was nasty, I'm not trying to debate that. I'm just saying thanks :)

Anyway, I learned a lot from this thread. Thanks to all you bees out there! I'm not sure what I would do without these boards.... maybe I would actually get work done ;)
