mmmm just so you know, you can see it through your shirts, which I think doesn’t look all that great. That is acutally why I took mine out and I am glad I did.

I guess I can’t say they’re trashy because I got one when I was 17 & at the beach with my friends.  However, there is noo way I’d consider getting one now.  I feel that once you become a ‘grown up’ all those extra peircings, funky hair colors, etc. should go away.  (Or maybe I’ve just gotten boring 🙂  )

I put that it depends. If you wear it trashy, it’ll be trashy, if you don’t, it won’t.

I LOOOOOVED my belly button ring. I was so incredibly sad it rejected after 2 years.

I think if you want one, you should get it. Personally, I think the only thing that makes them trashy is if you buy the biggest gaudiest piece of jewelery to wear there. and then you wear tube tops in the winter to show it off. Ya know? I guess what I’m trying to say is, don’t show it off unnecessarily.

I have one and I don’t think it’s trashy. They can come across as trashy if the girl wearing it is herself trashy.

That being said, the barbell I have in right now is SUPER fugly and tacky. Hot pink flames down on the bottom and a playboy bunny top ball.. I lost all my plain screw balls!

@tracieszcz: That isn’t necessarily true. If you’re wearing something skin tight, then maybe, but depending on the piece of Jewelry and the type of clothing, you don’t see it all the time.

I don’t think they’re trashy when they are age appropriate.  I had one when I was in my late teens, but I grew out of it by my early 20s.  If I saw a 40 year old woman with a belly button ring, then yes, I would probably think it was trashy. I would say someone can still pull it off in their 20s though.  And I have a small tattoo that is a “tramp stamp,” and I don’t think it’s trashy. 🙂

@SnowPeony: I got mine at 22. Some days, I completely forget that I have a piercing at all. When I notice it and point it out to people, they’re surprised to see that I have one. If we’re comparing trashiness, an ugly tribal tramp stamp is a lot worse than a belly button ring that can be removed.

@SnowPeony: No, a tight top wouldn’t hurt. Playing basketball in gym class? That hurts.

Honestly, they’re just very dated. I don’t know anyone who has one anymore.

I’ve had my belly button peirced since I was 14 and I don’t think it’s trashy at all. It’s one thing to wear a huge long dangly peircing with your mid-drift showing, but I think it can definitly be worn with class. I work in a professional office and no one knows I have it periced.

I can hardly see mine through shirts, even if they are tight, and when I am worried about that I wear just the simple barbell that has nothing attached. Usually it’s just the long glittery ones that show through a shirt.

I love my belly button ring and I think it adds a little something to my beach bod 😉

ETA: I am in my 20s and don’t plan on taking it out any time soon. I am even going to wear one of those special long plastic ones when we finally get pregnant, so that I have a personal goal to get back to belly button ring worthy tummy after it all!

@SnowPeony: I diy-ed mine the first 3 times. Not a good idea, I have no idea why I kept doing it.

It’s only trashy if you look trashy wearing it like going to the grocery store in a tube top pulled up to to show the ring with a pair of dirty jogging pants. lol
