If it's free there is no harm in going. Maybe you will get a free sample of cake.
Tip: Make an email account specifically for wedding stuff so your regular email doesn't get slammed with wedding stuff. I'm still getting email from people trying to get my business, and I was married 3 months ago!
The only thing I enjoy is taste testing the cakes!!!!! Otherwise, I find them to be kinda of pointless. But...if you've never gone to one, you should go to form your own opinion.
Sure, they're worth it! If nothing else, you can collect information from a variety of venues, photographers, bakeries, etc. to get an idea of price ranges in your area. And taste cakes, too. :)
Also, they always give away good stuff, like photography packages and honeymoons, so make sure you enter everything you would want to win!
I have fun going. It's a nice way to spend a few hours. Sometimes there is free sweets, sometimes there's nothing free. It's still fun though!
I went just for the experience, but I'd done a lot of wedding research and had booked a lot of things prior to going. It was a disappointment, and I felt bombarded. I got a couple of ideas, though. I also went to an open house at my venue-- these are a great idea, but again, I'd already booked everybody. My catering and cake vendors were there though--I got to have a tasting of the food for free instead of paying for it, so that was worth it.
also, I still get a million emails from wedding vendors. and I've been married 9 months.
@Jacqi: Great suggestion about the seperate email. After going to them I always get tons of emails. It's a little annoying.
@MamaHusky3: They are a great experience. I love to taste the cakes and food, and I also got a lot of ideas. I also saw some ideas I had in my head in real life. I've been to 2 of them, a small one and a really large one. I won things at both. At the large one, I won a free veil and also a $300 gift card to a laser hair removal place. You never know, you may win some free stuff!
I went to a few while I was planning and in the end they were pretty pointless for me. I guess if you wind up finding some awesome vendor that you didn't find via online searching it would be sweet. Or if you actually won a honeymoon package or something. In the end though I thought they were chaotic, not enjoyable except for trying food samples, and pointless in my planning at least.
Oh and I'd also like to add that I completely regret putting my e-mail down anywhere. 5 months past the wedding and I still have to block random vendors that keep giving my information around.
Adding yet another post lol sorry!
If you go to one, I highly recommend printing out some sticky labels with your information on it so you don't have to repeatedly write your info down on the forms you fill out to win stuff. Saves a ton of time and maybe you won't leave with a sore back from bending over to write the whole time :)
YES...GO GO GO! They are awesome! You can get so many great and wonderful ideas there! Most of the vendors have samples of their of cakes, centerpieces, table set-ups, invitations, etc... They also have some awesome raffles! The last one I attended I won the grand prize of the day.....a honeymoon in Hawaii! I had honestly thought these types of "grand prizes" were fake and a way to get brides to attend BUT that was so not the case! Here's the proof, me and my hubby in Maui!

i like them! i have been to two with my fun, its a fun way to spend time together and i won bridal portraits at the last one!!! :)
YES YES YES. I had awesome luck at bridal expos. I won a bachelorette package in Chicago (hotel suite and 4 hour transportation package w/ a trolley or double decker bus), a 10 pc. cookware set from BBB. I will have to agree with previous posters though and make a separate wedding e-mail account. I get a lot of updates.
i went to 3 or 4, all after i'd already booked a lot of vendors. it was most helpful for cake testing--got to try a bunch of different companies at a time! and it was good to see other vendors to reaffirm the decisions i'd already made
I knew someone who won their honeymoon and another bride who won a $10,000 ring! Do the sticky label thing with your info, set up a wedding email address.
I found the first one I went to useful (I went before I had 'the ring') but now that I know what I want and have booked things, they are less useful.
Sometimes setting up your registry with the department store they will have a 'deal' at the bridal show ($25 gift card).
Bridal shows are lots of fun but one suggestion I have - set up a separate email account for spam emails and give that out at the shows - the vendors give out your info to other vendors and it sort of gets out of hand. I went to shows last winter and i'm still receiving spam from vendors - I made the mistake of giving out my real info. Unless of course it is a vendor you really want to hear from then that's a different story. This is a great time of year though, there's usually tons of shows coming up!
You should go! I've always had fun at the expos. I found the place where I got my dress, our DJ, our dance lessons, our flower vendor, and some great ideas as well! I also got an amazing Alfred Angelo dress to wear to my rehearsal dinner for $99...down for $1049! At the very least it's information, entertaining, and free food!
I haven't been to a big bridal show, but I think that the smaller open-house-style parties are totally worth going to. You get to talk to a variety of vendors, get offers for discounts on services, and sample food/ cake without being overwhelmed.
You should definately go for the experience! I went to one and found it to be very overwhelming, but fun at the same time. I didn't actually need any vendors so I just went for fun. I loved all the cake and food samples, I got my make-up done, I got my picture taken, and watched a fashion show. It's fun if you don't put a lot of pressure on it and if you're mentally prepared to be asked hundreds of times, "When are you getting married? Have you picked a caterer yet?" The only thing I didn't like was that I have been getting sales calls for months since. It was major sensory overload, but I had a really fun time.
