Are guest books necessary? Alternatives?

I’m planning on something like this, that will hang in our home raher than sit in a closet. I chose this style over thumbprints and similar because I know in our family, people will want to write a short message rather than just sign names.

Although they are really common at weddings (and funerals lol) I personally don’t see the use of one. Will you honestly look in the book and scan the names? I don’t think I will. I will pretty much greet and say hello to everyone that comes to the wedding personally. I don’t need to look in a book to “remember” who was there. Its official. You have made me decide that I don’t want a guest book. lol.

BurlapnLace:  there have been guestbooks at every wedding/shower/funeral i’ve been to. For our guestbook, i got a photobook from Photobook America (groupon-holla) of our engagement pics. I made them full page pics, and picked ones where theres lots of background space. So the guests will sign their name/leave a note in the backgrounds of our pics. Then not only will we have well wishes from our family & friends, we also have a photobook of our e-pics!

inspiration pic- just the right page though- none of our pages have whitespace on them

The weddings I been to didn’t have one and I didn’t have one at mine. Most people use alternatives like the finger prints on a tree, jenga pieces, wine bottles etc. We had a picture frame with a photo from our engagement session and there was open space around it for the guests to sign. My SIL did this at her wedding too. After the wedding we switch it with a wedding photo and hung it on the wall.

I thought the same thing!! But i ended up doing an album off shutterfly. USed all our engagements photos – which i had no idea what to do with those, so this album was perfect. Now we got a cool album to look at photo’s of us and read messages on the way through 🙂 I love mine. Hubby and i have honestly looked through it 3 times. Paid for itself. I paid $60 including shipping and that included 20 pages 🙂

Instead of a guest book we had a huge group photo with everyone in it.

We’ll be having wishing tree instead of a guest book. Mostly because our wedding will be 25 people including FI and I, and I don’t want a whole book for only 23 messages or so

We just used a 16×20 image of our fav engagement photo and had guests sign it with a metallic sharpie. It’s currently on display in our home.

We have antique skis (wood) to have signed by our guests.  Then we’ll varnish them and hang them in our rec room.  We met skiing and we’re getting married at a ski hill.  🙂
