I take really hot showers. I love the steam. We joke around and call it the sauna room. Even our dog sits on the rug and enjoys it. Anyway is this not a good idea to do while TTC? Maybe I killed all the sperm our first month of TTC.Foot in mouth

Personally - I've never heard that before.  I highly doubt that had anything to do with it.  I'm sure you don't like hearing it but these things take time.  Most people don't get pregnant the first month the TTC.  Maybe the tides will change this month!

I thought heat killed sperm...hmm. There are so many myths and theories about pregnancy!

I remember asking my doctor about hot showers while pregnant and he said I was fine, but ask your doctor just in case.

I know they say hot tubs are a no-no for the guy while you're TTC. But I don't think you taking a hot shower (even after hot baby-makin' sex) would have any effect on whether or not your got pregnant.

    @TheFutureMcBride:

that's funny, because my doc was like "heeeeeeeeeeeeeellllls no" (to the[overly/extremely] hot tub/shower while pregnant) though I was never given a specific reason why.

It's funny how different medical practitioners give different answers. Can be confusing though.

@ the OP, I didn't listen to my doc at all, and still enjoyed my hot steamy showers while pregnant with no adverse side effects (except maybe napping).

WOW! I've never heard that or thought about it before so I guess I'm no help. I doubt it? But I guess is you just had sex and the sperm could be killed and then maybe?! haha I'm not sure.

I've never heard of this either. Perhaps you shouldn't have a really bath/hot tub soak RIGHT AFTER TTC... but I have a really really hard time believing that a hot shower would decrease your chances of getting pregnant.

Your body still regulates your internal temperature, so a hot shower shouldn't matter.  Baths and hot tubs, on the other hand, you are soaking in that hot water which could get to some of the more superficial sperm.  That's my take on the situation, anyway.

@sassmeister: I was told no hot tubs or saunas, but hot showers were fine because it's not like I was staying in the whoer long enough to get my core temperature to change. And I'm all about asking my doctor about every little thing next time. Sometimes  their stuff changes, but I'm an Angel Mom, so I'm scarred and scared.

Hot showers are fine while you are trying. Just not sitting in hot water.

Something else to consider for those of you that are trying. Even though your guy might not like this idea, it is not good for him to wear tight pants or underwear while you are trying. It doesn't give the little guys enough room, so if he is wearing tight pants and underwear, try getting him to wear looser pants and boxers.

According to the websites on my favorites list, hot showers are just bad for the "boy" sperm.  So if you're trying for a girl, no harm no foul!

The heat is not penetrating into your cervix. You're totally fine. Your body temerature is almost 100 degrees, and a hot shower isn't that much hotter than that. You're definitely worrying for no reason.

I would think the reason why you wouldn't want to soak in a bath/hot tub is for risk of infection which all of us girls are prone to if the tub isn't cleaned well.  But I've never heard of it having a problem when TTC.

No hot tubs or baths for the boys and the other thing we were told is no laptops on your man's lap when ttc, the heat from the computer can have a negative effect on sperm.

my mom is an ob/gyn nurse and I can assure you that if you are just TTC, none of these things are going to really get in the way of becoming pregnant.  It is once you ARE pregnant, that you are not supposed to take super hot showers or take hot baths or sit in hot tubs because of the heat on the baby.  as far as TTC, quit thinking about all the myths and just enjoy it.  it's when people forget about all that stuff and stop "trying" when it happens.

I LOVE my hot showers, and took them while TTC and even while pregnant (I just don't stay in long and keep my belly out of the way). I'm expecting a boy, so it didn't seem to impact anything, gender-wise. I think it's more an issue after you are preg, like some people said, and if you sit in the water. I haven't done hot tubs or saunas, I just like a quick, hot shower every now and again!

I also wanted to mention what Ladylox said above. We were also told NO laptops on my hubby's lap while ttc. Hard habit to break for him because he has the laptop on his lap a few hours every day! Having a laptop on the guy's lap can damage sperm!
