I love the first one! It's sooo pretty! The second one is pretty as well, but I love the short dress with the long sleeves! I want one just to wear to Holiday parties! LOL
Both dresses are cute. If I had to choose between the two, I'd pick the second one for brunch. But like hltraux said above, the first is pretty for a holiday kind of engagement party :)
I like the second one, but that's because the first one seems riskier to me and I never really make risky fashion choices. ;) It could be totally awesome!
I love the second one! The neckline is so feminine! I want it... where did you find these dresses?!
I found the dresses at www.blackweddings.com under their wedding gown gallery.
i like the first dress a lot especially since you're on the more slender side. thread dresses tend to be slightly pricey though (at least for bm's) so it depend on what type of budget you have as well. also, what time of year is it? i'm pretty sure i picked the first dress because it would be great for a late winter/early spring date. the other dress is appropriate through early fall i think.
Ladies, the second dress is found here http://bridal.threaddesign.com/collections/pages/i697_73.php
Thanks 91011! I am sending a link to Thread designs to my BMs. They have some gorgeous gowns... and they really aren't that much more expensive than J Crew.
I love dress # 2, but $935 is way out of my price range. Sad.
@crebre: Well, I was thinking we'd be engaged by early Fall 2010. However, I'm suspecting May, since his mom is making a "special" trip out here to see us. And yes, Thread dresses are somewhat pricey. That second dress is $925. Wowzer! I didn't expect to pay that much for an engagement party. I'll likely have my dress made anyway and will likely rock a replica of the first Thread dress. I really, really like it!
@RecessionistaBride: You're welcome. I hope they find something. Thread has some very nice designs.
yea that's crazy expensive... check bcbg... i think you may be able to find a really cool dress with that same sexy sophisticated vibe.
The first dress seems a little too dressy for a brunch, so I would go with the second. They are both really cute though.
I really love both but voted for #2 because that is what I would choose to wear!
They're both gorgeous and would both work, but the second is definitely a little more 'typical' in my opinion, whereas the first one would really stand out. It's a very unique choice, and I think, gorgeous.
It's hard to tell from the little pic, but I think I like the second one!
Both dresses are adorable, but I think I like the second one better. Great taste in dresses!
I like the second one better. The first one seems a little bit froofy to me.
Thanks ladies! It's weird, most of you are going for the second dress. Whereas my mother, future MIL and future AIL all quickly voted for dress number one. I think it has a lot to do with my "unique" style. And the fact that my mom immediately said, "that dress looks so much like you." I love both dresses and am considering perhaps getting both. One for the brunch and one for the rehersal (as one of you fabulous ladies suggested). Depending on the time of year of the engagement party (May 2010 or early Fall 2010) will dictate which dress I'll wear. Thanks for the feedback!

The party will likely be bunch style. Mister's mom slipped and told his aunt. His aunt insists on giving us an engagement party. Mister had to talk me into it. I kind of thought since we're encores, we don't need an engagement party. So, she's already planning (smart girl), so I'm already looking. It's likely to take place soon after our engagement is announced to the world. It will all be a surprise for me, so Mister and his aunt just told me to worry about what I'm wearing. Could this thing be happening sooner than i expect? In any event, what do you think of these dresses for the engagement party. These lovely dresses are actually wedding dresses.
