I wouldn't put it past some people (though hopefully no one I know) but I have to think that it's exaggerrate because it's TV and no one wants to watch a Bridezilla show with mellow normal people. What's real nowadays anyway? :)
I think some people will do anything to be on tv, and the more bridezilla you are, the better tv it makes.
I always wonder the same thing when I watch. I'm pretty sure it's mostly staged. Becoming a professional actress gave me a new perspective on this. Has anyone ever seen the show Cash Cab? It looks unstaged, right? One of my actress friends put herself in for what she thought was an MC job and ended up getting picked up by the cab to take her to the "job," when the lights came on and she was on the show. Not nearly as spontaneous as they make it seem.
I also wonder how many of these marriages last because the way some of these women treat their FIs makes me wonder.
I think the really extreme ones are staged. I remember being asked by someone from WE to audition for Bridezilla because they were looking for couples with a certain wedding date, without any consideration of whether or not I was a "bridezilla" (I didn't want to do it because it'd be WAY too embarrassing to be that much of a jackass on TV). Some of those couples are probably that dysfunctional, but I'm sure most of them are playing it up to get the free honeymoon (compensation for being on the show... they may get paid, also, but I don't know for sure).
I think they get a free honeymoon for participating and they probably have to sign a contract beforehand guaranteeing a certain amount of content. I watch the show too and it seems like they are coached most of the time by production managers.
I find Bridezillas just as entertaining whether it's staged or not. I love crappy reality tv, even if it's fake.
However, I am kinda upset by star's revelation about Cash Cab being staged. I'm a little disappointed that I'll never get the chance to accidentally stumble onto a game show. Even though I live in Cali and have never even been to NYC, I guess I always had a little hope it would happen for me. :(
I think they "kinda" get paid..it's a honeymoon to Grand Lido in Jamaica.
I just know I'd never want to be associated with such a negative connotation.
Bad reality TV is horribly entertaining! Ack!
I have heard that people on reality shows are really encouraged by the people running the show to act out- they get egged on, they are encouraged to drink a lot, they bring up all sorts of drama, etc. Then there is the editing. If you took me and my dear FI and made us do nothing but drink and wedding plan, we'd act totally crazy too! Granted, I haven't seen that show but I can only imagine! :o)
Mildly off topic, but @Star: NOOOOOO! I love Cash Cab! My fondest dream of going to NYC would be to happen into the Cash Cab. Another hope dashed. :( I know I watched one episode where they took a potential model to like Elite Models agency or something. I wonder if that was "coordinated"? *sigh* It's like finding out the truth about Santa Claus.
And RE: Bridezillas: Can you imagine putting your family and friends through that just to get a free honeymoon? Ugh. I would totally resent any friend of mine for making us all go through that.
Check out this website. Here are a bunch of Bridezilla stories from the people that witnessed it! http://www.etiquettehell.com/content/eh_wedding/bridezillas/ebridezilla.shtml
Mr. Q's cousin & his boyfriend were on Cash Cab & he is NOT an actor and had no idea it was going to happen. Don't worry, Spinning Jenny!!
I dunno, I saw a couple clips from the show on one of those programs on E! where they talk about funniest tv show moments, and I don't think I could make some of that stuff up:D
Specifically, there was one girl who was FREAKING OUT and CRYING because her dress had a stain on it. She pointed to the stain on her dress and...the camera was moving all over the place trying to figure out exactly where she was pointing, because it was honestly impossible to see. I was able to make out the tiniest, faintest smudge that I probably would not even notice on my dress. So she puts her entire dress in the BATHTUB and gives it a bath!!
There was another one I saw...this woman had gotten her bridal party together and was telling them all who was going to need to stuff their bras for the bachelorette party! She was like "you guys all really need to wear low cut shirts" and told them they needed to have their chests basically hanging out. Then she started POINTING to people and saying "You need to stuff your bra" and one of the girls was her DAUGHTER and she was like "but mom, I'm only 16!"
Hilariously awful.

I'm sitting her watching one of my DVR'ed episodes of "Bridezillas", and I refuse to believe that normal people act this way. Do you think they are paid? Why would you want to act this way on national TV? It leads me to believe it's fake like most reality TV.
Does anyone agree or do you know people like the women of Bridezillas?
