i think they're fine. it's about what's inside of the bag that counts for me, plus you can actually use those bags.
I wouldn't care about what the bag looked like as much as I would about the contents in the bag (snacks, water, advil etc)
I agree with @artbee, you can use those bags again for grocery shopping etc.
@Miss ACS: I was just planning on putting bottled water, some snacks, bandaids, tylenol, and a guide to the weekend in them.
I think they are great and I would re-use them when grocery shopping!
Ok, all good things. So to tie it together, throw something cute in there, like a package of seeds (flowers of your wedding colors?) or something else "eco" that would work with the wedding, and run with it :)
I think they would be fine for OOT bags...They are sturdy enough that your OOT guests may actually take them out and about with them to carry stuff PLUS they can also use them later for groceries.
IMO they don't have to match your color scheme b/c they aren't being used at your wedding or reception
I like them and your guests can reuse them for grocery shopping or whatnot.
I wouldnt use them but that is because our State has just banned plastic bags, so everyone uses those bags now to do their shopping, they are everywhere, If they are not as common where you are then go for it.
I think they are fine for OOT bags and since you already bought them, in keeping with the eco-ness you should use them instead of buying something else to replace them :)
Maybe you could personalize by adding the date in one of the letters or in a corner with an embossing pen or stamp or something.
Oh, I forgot to point out that I would reuse it for groceries or carrying gym clothes after the wedding!
I love them... they're totally re-useable as grocery bags too :-)
I will be the voice of dissent. I don't like the message on the front...not that it's not a good message, just that it's not very wedding-y. I would prefer a plain craft bag (or just a plain bag).
Maybe if you use them, you can put a little welcome note inside that mentions how the bag is a reusable grocery or library book bag. I think that would tie it together nicely.
I love green bags. I've got like 30 in the trunk of my car, for shopping! I think it's perfectly fine for an OOT bag. There's no rule saying OOT bags have to match your wedding colors or theme or anything, anyway.
Just a thought, maybe you could turn them inside out (re-insert the cardboard bottom) drop the handles into the bag and roll it down a bit, stuff it with some tissue paper, etc....and allow the gifts inside the bag show through the top? That way you can't see the label on the side. Maybe you could even do it without turning it inside out... I dunno, just thinkin of creative ways to use them -- it's such a great price for an OOT bag! I am searching for OOT bag idea's myself....
Turning them inside out is a neat idea! Would that work or do the seams work weird?
Is green one of your wedding colors? Maybe you could attach a fabric flower or constrasty bow to the handle of the bag. That'd dress it up a little.
I like MissACS's idea of putting them in the OOT bag, but I wouldn't use them specifically for it. You can if you want, but I would think something a little more cute.
i voted that i dont like them, but they really aren't that bad. i guess if your wedding is "going green," i'd use them! so either i guess i'm between don't use them, or dress them up. even just tying a bow on them would be nice. don't overdress them because you don't want anything rubbing off/falling off/etc in someone's suitcase!
i'm in the camp where if something is purchased and it's not a huge concern, just to work with it. But i did like the idea of putting it IN the craft bag as part of the gift, though it's a little ironic.
Haha I like the idea of putting them IN the OOT bags too, but I agree it's ironic.
To clarify, green is NOT one of our colors and our wedding isn't eco-themed. BUT we live in the San Francisco area which is very eco-focused and my specializaiton is environmental law so I guess it works. I can't really turn them inside out, it would look weird. And they are smaller than shopping bags - think 8.5x11 ish.
Thanks for all your input. I will likely either 1) use them as OOT bags or 2) put them inside the OOT bags. If I use them I'll just attach a little tag saying welcome to the Bay Area and to the wedding.
I'm getting the idea of eco-friendly but I'm not sure how many of your guests would. They may think it was an after thought or something you had lying around the house. I agree maybe put them in with the other goodies or have a tag explaining enjoy your shopping time in San Fran with your eco-friendly shopping bag. Or something like that.
I just had an idea for how to dress them up and tie them into the SF theme...I could buy I <3 SF or I <3 CA buttons and affix them to the bags, and then also include things like ghirardelli squares inside. I like this idea :)
How about one of the newer type of eco favors out there? Like a seedling tree for them to plant and maybe some of the re-useable water bottles that are eco friendly and healthy too? Maybe some organic trail mix or some locally grown yummy fruits?
those are awesome. Way to go for being "green." I think they are cute and who cares if it matches your colors?! The people who are getting them are definitely not going to say "UGH, these totally don't go with their theme!"
I think the bags are fine. Another thing to consider, and I really don't want to sound like a jerk, is that putting plastic water bottles in these could seem a little contradictory. Kind of doesn't go with the "one less plastic bag"/ecofriendly concept- you know? I wonder if you could find a cute cheap aluminum water bottle or the hard plastic non-disposable kind. I don't know, maybe others wouldn't see it this way. But I really do think the bags are cool!
I don't see a problem with these bags - you should definitely use them! Our OOT bags didn't all match our colour scheme, and I highly doubt anyone noticed - they were all too focused on the goodies inside I'm sure!
Katerrific - that's not jerky at all. I've thought the same thing. I just think it might be too expensive to do aluminum bottles, but I'll see what I can do!
Who cares!? NO ONE is going to care what your OOT stuff is in!!! Theyll just be happy that there is a treat for them waiting in their room!

Hey Hive,
I bought these bags from Target's dollar bin months ago because they were on sale for 75% off (25 cents each) and I couldn't pass up such a good deal. Now I am wondering if they are too ugly for OOT bags. They don't match our colors at all. We live near SF so I thought maybe I could play up the fact that they are representative of the eco-conscious SF Bay Area but I still think they aren't that cute. Thoughts?
