Just got back from David's Bridal with my MOH. We chose a style we liked, which happened to also be on sale for $99. When we asked about the process for buying the dresses, the ladies said the dress was about to be discontinued and we had better order all the dresses RIGHT NOW or else there won't be any left. I asked if they were sure, and they sounded pretty convincing - they said that when a dress is discounted, that means it's about to go, and if I wanted to take time ordering, I should choose another style.

Has anyone had this type of experience? I feel like they might be exaggerating so that we buy all the dresses. But on the other hand the story's plausible and it's a nice price...we just weren't planning to order them so early.

I didn't order mine from David's Bridal, so I'm not sure about the story they gave you, BUT if you really like the dresses and the girls all tried them on and they like them, then why not order them?  Yes, it might be too early, but it would save everyone at least $50 (more of their BM dresses are $150) and it's one more thing you can cross off your list!

I know that I picked a dress from there that is being discontinued, so I asked all of my girls to order their dress by the first week in December. The ladies at my David's Bridal said that if the dress is being discontinued then we wouldn't be able to purchase it after January. I think she was telling the truth because one of my girls had to buy the sample off the rack because there were no more of the dress I picked out at the main warehouse. Kinda crazy (and stressful!).

Sometimes it's a tactic they use but sometimes it's true. If you have the style number, go online and do a search for it. If it says available in stores only...that usually means that it has been discontinued and they only have the ones on the rack. Having said that, they are willing to call around to other David's Bridal stores to see if they can find ones in other stores that are the sizes you need. Downside...there may be some variation sin color since the dresses won't be from the same dye line.

I think it's believable. It happened to me, I was a BM and the color was being discontinued on one of their classic styles and they told us to order them ASAP to make sure everyone got their size. If you're set on the dress go for it, but wait if you're not 120% sure because none of their dresses are returnable.

I think it might be a tactic to get you to buy the dresses.  It seems to me like most of their dresses are the same from year to year so I'm not sure how many are actually discontinued or how many new designs are released.

we ordered our dresses for my friends wedding from db, and we were looking at a discontinued dress and they too said the same thing, but my friend wasn't sure if she reaallly liked it and wanted to continue looking, so it might be true...

It's most likely true. Ditto the poster who said to take the style number and look it up online. My friend's BM dresses are being discontinued effective 12/31 and they say they can only be ordered in the stores.

Her wedding is 5/2011 and she just had her girls, myself included, buy the dresses last Friday because she, and I agree with her, thinks the dresses are gorgeous. In addition, the color is gorgeous and they are discontinuing the COLOR. So that's actually the main reason why she had to order them.

DB has a million dresses. If you really don't want to get them this early, just pick another dress. But if your wedding is in September, it doesn't seem terribly early to me to get the dresses especially if you and your MOH agree that this is "the dress!"

GL - sometimes DB really bites the big one!
