Sooo today I fell in love with an engagement photographer… I emailed and asked about pricing, and the price was $1,300 for the top photog, $1,100 for the other… for two hours!!!!! The pics are in Mexico, but that just seems insane to me for engagment photography!!! Another photog quoted me at $450! Is this insane, or is it just me?? What did you pay for your engagement pictures???

My e-pics were included in my wedding photography… which cost me $1500.

Are they giving you their camera afterward? That’s ridiculous for engagement shoots. I’ve seen max of like $700, and I thought even that was ridiculous.

People can charge whatever they want… but you dont have to pay 🙂 That does seem very steep for 2 hours. I know some people are so well-known and what not and probably can charge that, but I suspect these arent those people.

It is crazy! it was part of my package for photography, 3,000 is the whole price and it includes a lot, we arent doing engagement photos instead she is coming to our rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. but yea the prices get pretty intense

Wait, are they flying to Mexico or are they already in Mexico? If they are traveling to Mexico to do your photos then yeah, that’s reasonable. International flights/passports/vaccines/insurance/ect isn’t cheap.

Wow – I’m interested to see their photos!

Nope, they are *IN* Mexico… lol! If you’re curious, it was a photographer that was part of one new Mrs.’s post early today or late last night (hint hint)..
I just have a hard time understanding what is so special about this team that they charge 1300… insane lol! Darn their good photos for making me like them 🙂

That is completely outrageous. Our e-pics were also separate from our wedding package, because we are getting married out of state. The most expensive quote I got for an e-pic session was $500 with another $200 if we wanted printing rights to all the images. I ended up finding one that we both loved for $300 that included the disc. $1300 is more than some people pay for their wedding photography. Insane!!!

Yeah, $1300 for any e-pics is just crazy. For two hours? Wow. Screw that.

LOL.. I thought so.. They have a “sister” site with what I’m guessing are less experienced photogs and the quote was $1,000. I’ll be going with my original choice, thank you very much.. ha ha!
Just as a further FYI.. their wedding day price for 8 hours was $8,700…. must be photogs for the rich & famous 😉

Are you 100% sure it’s USD1300?

Yepp, it even says in the file all prices are in U.S. Dollars! That unbelievable, huh?

The important question is what are you getting for 1300?
I think an average price for a portrait session that includes web proofing is around 100-200. From there you select what you want…print packages, digital files, etc. Every photographer is different. For senior portraits, or baby pictures, it’s not uncommon to have 500-700 dollar packages, but these people are looking for many prints. Also a lot of photographers don’t want to miss out on print sales so price digital files so expensive, that you just order prints from them. I’ve seen a few (including one recently posted on this board), that charged like 100 bucks for each digital file or 2K for the session CD. I would say in total, you should be able to find something soup to nuts for around 300-400
The reason why prices are all over the places is mostly because of the advent of amateur photographers on the market. These are typically the shoot and burn types that charge very reasonable rates.
Most wedding packages include the shoot for a few reasons:
1…to make the package more competitive
2…to get to know the couple before hand
3…to get more print sales (most of the time the shoot is free but files or prints are EXTRA,
