I was going over our list of invites and adding our photographers to the meal list. But I am wondering, do we also have to invite all of our vendors to the reception? I know our cake lady will not attend since she has to drop the cake off earlier in the day, but are we supposed to invite everyone else? (florist, officiant, etc.) We are paying so much already for their services, are we then expected to pay for them to eat and drink?
Thoughts bees? Are you sending any of them invitation?

I think it is customary to invite the officiant..often the do a prayer before the meal. Many times they do’t attend..it depends on your relationship

Even though we don’t have a relationship with the officiant we are inviting him and his wife to the reception.

Usually the officiant is invited. Ours is a JP that we don’t know, but we will still invite her and her husband. Usually you also pay for the band/dj meals, photographer, wedding planner/coordinator. All other vendors will have already finished work and the caterers don’t usually get counted in your meals. You may also want to think about your bartender is that’s a seperate person.

we will be inviting the officiant to the reception. our other vendors are: the photographers will get a vendor meal though, as with the dj.

We invited ours and his wife, but they very politely declined (he said that after all these years he enjoys the solitude of going home to dinner with his wife…awwwwwe 🙂 )

Your florist and cake decorator do not need to be on the invite list.
However, it’s definitely common courtesy to extend your officiant an invitation to the reception. Even if they respectfully decline to attend, it’s still a nice gesture.
Your photogs and DJs will also need a meal, of course.

If the officiant is close like a minister you’ve grown up with, then I would say yes. But if it’s just someone you asked to perform at the wedding, then no.

Wow, didn’t even THINK about that..thanks Yahtzee for asking, and all you other bee’s for filling us all in!

I would invite the officiant, though ours is a family friend… so I wouldn’t dream of having it any other way 🙂

I get invited to about 75% of the weddings I perform, but almost always respectfully decline. It’s a nice gesture (I especially get excited when I get an invite!), and I have, on occasion, stayed for cocktail hour, but usually, I just head home or take the fiance out to dinner.

Thank you for all of your help!

invite (and plan to feed) the vendors who need to be there during the reception (dj, photog, videog, wedding planner, etc) and the officiant. … the florist, the cake maker etc, no.
(you wouldnt invite the dress alterer, or the invitation designer, or the postal worker who hand canceled the invitations)
