I wouldn’t recommend it.  I’ve read more than one story where the dress comes back not looking at all like the original, or it’s dirty/unfinished/poorly sewn etc.  Also they never speak English and their customer service is non-existent.  Because they are in China you can’t get your money back and have no reprise.  I just think it’s a bad idea as a whole.

the models & dresses look exactly like the ones on bridal websites.

That would be because the pictures in the ads are typically taken from the designers’ websites, as opposed to being pictures of an actual dress the Chinese manufacturer has made.  The actual dress you get will not look like that.  In some instances, brides are satisfied with what they get, even though the material, design, etc., are not really the same.  In many instances, the dress ends up being unwearable.

And the return policies if something goes wrong are often quite sketchy.  A typical one will say that you get the cost, minus a 25% “restocking fee” back if you return the dress within three days after receiving it.  What they don’t mention is that you will be responsible for paying the cost of shipping it back, which may be much of the cost of the dress.  Also, this protects you only if you see obvious problems when you open the package.  It does not help if you find only when you go for alterations that there are such defects in the manufacturing that the dress really cannot be altered in such a way that it will look good.

And yes, most bridal dresses are made in China.  However, most of the good Chinese manufacturers are under contract with a particular wedding dress designer.  What you get will be made by a manufacturer not good enough to be taken on by a designer.

If you want to find a dress at a bargain, I would recommend looking at used dresses (or at dresses bought by brides who end up going with a different dress).  You could check out local consignment stores, eBay, or various used wedding dress sites.  But that way, you get the real dress by that designer.

I absolutely love my wedding dress. I ordered from myidress.com and they sent photos of the dress to me for approval before sending it off. The customer service there was fantastic. They allowed me to customize the dress in ways other dress sites didn’t. It was a great experience. However, do NOT order from DHGate.com . I originally ordered my dress from that site and received a disastrous dress in the mail with the wrong measurements. It was an awful experience but myidress.com is definately worth looking at.
