Do I give him enough affection?  Am I smothering him? Is he normal?  Is he falling behind? Will he get some girl pregnant in high school?  Is that a smear of his poop on the coffee table?

Lol! So funny, but so true…

I’m not a mother, and I probably won’t be for several years but even I notice these things.

A friend of mine had a baby a couple years ago and when she was a few months old, a group of us went out to dinner and my friend’s mom came along to help watch/feed the baby while we ate so her daughter could socialize for the first time in months. I later told a male friend about this and he was confused. He was like “Wait…she’s not breastfeeding?! What a terrible mother!!” I’m not exaggerating at all, that’s almost literally what he said to me. I was like “Wow, how can someone judge someone’s parenting ability based on whether or not they breastfeed?” At this time, I don’t plan on breastfeeding my future children and I’ve already been dreading telling people that because I’m well aware that people will tell me I’m a bad person. Arg. Just makes me mad to think about.

But this article did give me a little chuckle 🙂

@Juliepants: OMG you are a wonderful writer! People can be apeshitcrazy over their beliefs of right and wrong.

So funny! I’m the type that just lets all the little “suggestions” roll off my shoulders but it does get annoying after a while! Parenting is just one of those things that you really CAN’T mess up unless you are abusive. The type of person who insists that their way is the only right way most likely does the same thing with politics and religion. We’re ALL great parents, I’m sure.

@CarolinaCola: what amazes me is when people judge and say that shit without realizing it may or may not have been a choice.  It is a mothers choice and right to decide if she will or will not do it, and formula is not exactly going to kill your newborn.  I couldn’t breast feed…so I guess I’m a bad mom too!!

@Juliepants: lol. I was really impressed and thought you were a professional writer and very well spoken. Oh well, you are still a smart woman that reads interesting things. Good enough for me:0) It was a very good article, thanks for sharing.

I didn’t realize there was a parenting forum on WB until I saw this post. I cant tell you how much I enjoyed that article. Considering the amount of truly bad mothers that sadly do exist, i think it’s about darn time the rest of us stop beating ourselves/eachother up. Well said!
