I recently read that the average American woman has 19 pairs of shoes.  My first thought was "wow I'm SO above average in this department." haha I was actually really shocked by what I thought was a low number.   I haven't counted in a while but I would estimate that I have about 80 pairs of shoes, (not including flip flops and house slippers).

Where do you rank?  Are you below or above average?  What's your favorite pair of shoes?

I have around 25-30 pairs but that includes flip flops.. I have a ton of flip flops & sandals.. Honestly I absolutely hate wearing anything that isn't sandals or flip flops.. (You can imagine how much I love cold weather!lol) I have two favorites, my under armour flip flops are so comfy & then a super cute pair of black gypsy style sandals.

Oh wow! I'm way below average. I think I half about half that amount, probably around 10. I'm not too much of a shoe person. I probably buy about a pair per year, and then I never throw them out :).

I probably have about 30 pairs but thats only because I don't like to throw old stuff out. I pretty much always wear the same 10 pairs. That includes sneakers, boots, work shoes, sandals and dress shoes. I'm basically shoe challenged. I don't like shopping for them, I only like the most basic styles and colors, don't like to experiment, and when I finally find something I like I wear it everyday until it gets holes and then I scour the entire internet until I find the same pair or a similar one. I think there's a defect somewhere in my female chromosomes.

I used to have less shoes, but for some reason my future mother-in-law LOVES to take me shopping.  THEN she insists on buying everything for me (even suggesting things that would look cute on me in an attempt to buy me more) - I attribute this to her lack of a daughter all these years-  Therefore, my shoe collection has grown quite a bit the past two years due to her love. lol

I have hiking boots, a ratty old pair of tennis shoes, chacos, and two pairs of black closed shoes for daily winter wear.  Then I've got snow boots, a couple pairs of flip flops, and about three or four pairs of heels.  I voted 5-10 but I think it may be more if I count all the flip flops and old pairs of shoes I need to throw out.

    @Meowkers:

hahaha 19?! No way! I was at 97 when I moved in August, but I gave about 10 pairs away so I'm probably up to 90ish? Including sandals, but not flip flops.

Sigh.  This is a sad story.  I used to have hundreds.  Designers, name brands, shoes and boots for all kinds of weather, all kinds of outfits.  Alas, I hurt my feet by wearing shoes that weren't good for them.  And this year, I had to start over... and only wear... Footprints (Birkenstock).  Luckily, I order them from Germany and there are actually lots of great options now, but I had to donate all of my old pairs (at least someone somewhere is probably happy).  I used to have a shoe closet just for my shoes.  Now that I have had to start over with only shoes that are very supportive for my feet (it is expensive to start over!) I probably have 10 pairs.

Yeah, if flip flops didn't count, I would have a lot fewer.....

I own probably 30ish pairs total; I regularly wear 2-3 each season.

I have like 30+ and yet I still feel my shoe wardrobe is insufficient. I do wear the same few pairs repeatedly, but I have a lot of various nifty heels that aren't really meant for daily wear so I don't get to break them out as much as I like. I need more "basics" to switch up the daily rotation. I love shoes. They never make me feel fat. Also, I don't wear flip-flops. I have a few pairs for like the beach, but I really really don't wear them unless I am just running to Wal*Mart or something. No offense, I just don't find them attractive or any more comfortable than my regular sandals.

@cbee:  omg  my heart weeps at this tragic loss.  I'm sorry.  One of my biggest fears about becoming pregnant is that my feet will grow and I won't be able to wear my shoes.  What was the catalist for your decision to get rid of your shoes?

Flip flops can count if you consider them a shoe!!!  I just only wear flip flops around the house or to the pool.  I don't wear them out, (although I do wear sandals), that's why I didn't count them.

How do you afford so many pairs of shoes??? I feel guilty whenever I buy shoes, I'm guessing 11-20, not including flip flops because.. they're only sort of shoes and I kind of hate them unless I'm going to the beach

    2 pairs of Uggs

    1 pair of rain boots

    2 pairs gym shoes

    3 pairs flats

    4 pairs sandals

    2 pairs heeled boots

    8 pairs heels

okay, so about 22 pairs- all on sale and/or under 50$ (except the Uggs, those are, well, Ugg prices).. I'll be buying probably 2 new pairs soon though, as I'm going to Rome in 3 weeks!!

I have three pairs of running shoes, ballet shoes, jazz shoes, flamenco shoes, cleets... that doesn't even count the winter boots or regular day shoes or whatever.

The thing with fancy shoes is they last forever, so you never throw them out. And with athletic shoes, I usually am in some kind of rotation because they wear out so fast!

So, while I have *very* few shoes that most people see, I actually have more than average!

OK, I want to know where the people who answered "81-90 pairs" PUT all those shoes. They'd need their own room!!

I'm about average. I'd say I have 15 or so, but may have more like 25 counting shoes I *have* but don't wear. To me, 19 sounds about right... For my family and friends at least.

I have a SHOE Obsession!!! I don't spend much money on clothing, I am perfectly happy with the basics I have in my wardrobe! But I will go Crazy with Shoes! I love shoes, I will be them in CRAZY colors, colors I may not have in my closet! I am a military wife, so I move often, so I tend to PURGE Shoes I haven't worn in a while before a MOVE!  I have about 45 pairs right now! I should take a pic of my closet, I have the small RUBBERMAID tubs about the size of a SHOE box, with a pair of shoes in each, then a PHOTO of the shoes! The day I photographed all my shoes was a blast. I know sounds crazy, but the Cardboard shoe boxes get SMUSHED in the moves and if they aren't in a box, they just throw them at the bottem of a wardrobe hanging box to get scuffed! I learned the hard way! :)

So did any of you ladies shop at MACYS last week? Shoes were buy one get one 25%! :)

I have size 11.5 feet. I have sooo much trouble finding shoes that fit. I have around 10 pairs, and wear 4 of those regularly. If I had size 7 or 8 feet I would own 100 pairs of shoes. I love shoes.

    My goodness.....I feel bad.

I wear a size 10 foot but I still have at LEAST 70 pairs of shoes. There are a good 10 pairs I haven't had the chance to wear yet (but I definitely will). I have a tendency not to throw/give away shoes unless they on their last legs.

Now that spring is here, it may be time to do some cleaning.

DH and I counted semi-recently and I think I was in the upper 20s.  Some of those don't really fit anymore though (I should probably get rid of those).

I am below average atm because I haven't bought any replacement shoes [runners pumps, hiking boots etc] in a while. I will probably end up buying 3-6 more pairs in the next month or so.

Let's see-2 pairs of sneakers, one pair of snow boots, one pair of black dress boots, one pair of brown dress boots, one pair of black ballet flats, one pair of tan heels, and oh about 25 pairs of flip flops.

I have around 35 I think. Though I need to go through them and get rid of some stuff. I have tennis shoes in my closet that I've had since high school with the soles peeling off.

I probably have like 15 that I wear with any measure of regularity. 4 boots, 2 tennis shoes, 4 fancier shoes, 5 casual shoes
