Ok I dont want to part with my name i know that sounds dumb but i just am not ready to give up the “old me” I want to hyphenate but no one else is supporting this. One day when i am ready i could always change it couldnt i? what are the rules on this, why do people normally keep their last name? or hyphenate?

Not sure how to answer your question exactly. I plan to keep my name. My main reason is because I want to keep my name. I think you should do what you want to do! You don’t need anyone else’s approval or permission.

There’s no rules, you can do whatever you want. Just keep in mind that whatever you put on your marriage certificate is the one time easy pass to changing your name. If you want to change it to something different after that, I think you have to go through the courts. I moved my last name to my middle name, since my middle name is my Chinese name that I NEVER used.
