Like I am?  I just got a couple of bites from leaving my screen door open for 5 minutes!

Will your venue have mosquitoes, and are you doing anything to help your guests combat them?

LOL! I love the title of this post!
My sister is delicious to mosquitos, and we haven't really thought of what we're going to do. I'll be interested to see what ppl suggest.

Ha yes. Unfortunately mosquitos will be abundant at our venue. I'm thinking about putting some mosquito repellant in the welcome bags...

I'm totally delicious to mosquitos too, I feel your pain Mrs. Bee!

YES UGHHHH I HATE THIS!  I run hotter (literally) than most people... I swear I am always 1 degree hotter than normal people. Anyway, mosquitoes flock to me.

No advice on the mosquitoes... they don't seem to be a problem here in Nor Cal (woooot)

This is the only reason we chose not to have an outdoor reception!  Bugs eat me alive, and then I have allergic reactions.  It's not a good situation, and definitely not something I want to deal with on my wedding day!

YES! I already have bugbites all over! I'm considering making the tea lights citronella candles - but I worry they'll smell! Tiki torches would be odd, but I'm considering making a perimeter of citronella candles, but I don't knwo how effective that will be.  I also thought about including bug spray in the bathroom baskets and I'll be searching for a less smelly one for myself (and those getting ready with me)!

I can only respond due to my experience - YES, yes I AM delicious to mosquitoes *UGH* I'm also semi-allergic (a regular mosquito bite for me is approximately 5" in width...about 1" in height)........what am I doing to help my guests? I haven't thought of it just yet! I'm thinking citronella candles!

I just heard on the radio last week that if you eat bananas you will attract more mosquitos.  On the other hand, mosquitos will stay away if you lots of garlic or citrus fruits.  Which won't really help your guests... but I'm planning on drinking lots of water with lemon slices in the weeks leading up to the wedding.  I usually do and I only get one or two bites per summer.  Guess my flesh is not so sweet??

I'm planning on adding bug spray to the bathroom baskets.  When we have outdoor events for work, I put out a basket with like 10 things of bug spray, and I'm honestly wondering whether one of the standing tables during the cocktail hour should hold a couple of bottles so everyone knows it's there...

we ended up ordering bug spray wipes and having them available at the wedding...unfortunatley some people thought they were wet ones (since we had a clam bake) and ended up stinging their faces...whoops

So funny you posted this today I was outside last night and after about 1 minute I had 3 huge welps on me and one was on my forhead.  Then this morning there was one in my house because silly me left the door open for my doggies so I was trying to get my 100 pound lab to catch the mosqito! He kept chasing it around and trying to chomp on it believe me I was cheering him on.  We are getting married outside but hopefully in October in denver the skeeters won't be too bad!  I am from Texas and the skeeters down there are like a small bird.

I refer to myself as the "all-you-can-eat-mosquito-buffet"...even with mosquito repellent they still manage to find me.
I really want to try that new Off Clip-On to see if it helps at all.
If it does, it'll be our favors....lol!

Oh my gosh, I get bit by mosquitos like CRAZY!  I'm a little worried bc our rehearsal dinner is going to be at our house, in our backyard, and we live next to a creek!  We have a ton of mosquitos!  I am thinking about doing tiki torches around the perimeter so that people don't have to douse themselves in icky deet.

I'm apparently super tasty too (the only person I know with "sweeter blood" is my little sister). Not only do I get bitten a lot, I also get a lot of infected bites too... I've had one once on the back of my knee that swelled up so big, I had trouble walking!

The mosquitoes love me, but I don't love them back.  Recently I went back to China to visit my parent's homes, and my legs were eaten alive.  I wore capri pants, and I was bitten over 50 times between my knees and ankles.  The odd thing was that it didn't itch until two days later.. those were some weird mosquitos.

yes...I have welts all over from a wedding we went to this weekend.  The groom is a longtime hiking buddy of mine, and he was joking with FI how great it is to be outside with me b/c you don't need to wear any bug repellent.  Ugh!

Environment be-d@1ned, we're going to spray the site before the ceremony.

Two things to think about--

1.  The newest theory on mosquitos is that the person who is tasty is the person with low cholesterol levels.  Apparently, the tasty person processes cholesterol really well and therefore the cholesterol lays on the person's skin rather than in his/her blood.  The mosquitos are attracted to the cholesterol.

2.  For those who are planning outside events- there is a fogger machine which can be used.  We have to use it before any backyard activity.  It will keep mosquitos away for several hours.  I still use 100% DEET but the fogger makes "normal" people comfortable.  I agree with having a "repellant" table.

As a child growing up ... I was a feast for them. Now I'm not. I don't know what happened, but I don't get bitten anymore.

I did get ONE BITE and it was from this big freakin mosquito that was trapped in the laundry room. I saw it, was too scared to kill it b/c it was huge, and when I went to do laundry I came out with a huge welt on my leg.

I, like Mrs. Penguin, generally run hotter than those around me. When I was a kid, I was just one giant mosquito bite!

Our ceremony is outdoors, but our reception is inside so I'm hoping our short (less than 30 min.) ceremony won't be a problem.

For those of you that are worried about a location where you have some control, e.g. your own backyard, you may want to look into using "Cutter Bug Free Backyard".  We've been using it at our house and it lasts for a little over a month before we need to spray again.  None of the plants have been affected and our dogs have shown no reaction either.  No odor too, which is always nice.  Just a thought and good luck.  I'm a delicious to the mosquitos as many of you so I can sympathize.

Mosquitoes LOVE me.  During a high school marching band practice outside during the summer, I once got 84 bites over the course of a 2 hour time period!  It was horrible.

Thankfully, our wedding was inside and it was too early to be a bad time around here for mosquitoes.  Yuck!

During the summer of 2002, I had no summer courses to teach. So instead I trapped adult mosquitos to monitor for the West Nile Virus in PA. I went to swamps, tire dumps, waste water treatment plants and the like and set up CO2 traps. I was not allowed to wear repellent (which I don't do anyway, I minored in biochemistry and you could not pay me enough money to put DEET on my skin). Instead, I look a B complex tablet, a garlic capsule and MSM everyday - it takes a feew days for the effect to kick in. These sulfur containing compounds makes one unattractive to mosquitos and I did not get bit a single time.

Also, catnip oil can be applied to cloth (clothes) and lawn chairs and will also repel mosquitos and black flies (gnats).

Mr. Bee, my husband feels the same as you.  He says he doesn't need to wear bug repellant when I'm around.

Mrs.Bee, my husband wanted a garden wedding in June.  I vetoed that, the last thing I want is warm weather and bugs.  However, since it has rained most of June in NY I'm glad we saved our money by doing it (off-season) in March.

I am absolutely scrumptious to mosquitoes. People who are with me never have to worry about being bitten because I'm their personal cintronella candle.  And it doesn't help that my mosquito bites swell up to ginormous proportions!  I still have a scar on my leg from one bite I got 3 years ago.

I've tried Calamine,  Benadryl and various anti-itch sticks.  The only thing that works for me is putting scalding hot water on the bite (either in the shower or with a soaked face towel).  Apparently, the heat draws out all the histamine production from the bite - and it takes about 24 hours for the body to make more.  So I get relief for at least a day!

That eating lots of garlic to keep mosquitos away is total BS.  My husband eats garlic like it's going out of style - massive amounts of garlic (never have to worry about vampires getting me while he's around) and mosquitos find him VERY tasty.

I get eaten alive!! For outdoor weddings you can always have cute tiki torches around your venue and fill them with the oil that has bug repellent in it!! Actually works rather well, we have them at home.

I think we're going to use tiki torches and other mosquito things that can be used as lighting or something else that won't stick out like a sore thumb

My friend just sent me this email about mosquitos. I haven't tried it yet. When I do, I'll let you all know how it works!

Mosquito Spray...Worth a try
I was at a deck party awhile back, and the bugs were having a ball biting everyone. A man at the party sprayed the lawn and deck floor with Listerine, and the little demons disappeared. The next year I filled a 4-ounce spray bottle and used it around my seat whenever I saw mosquitoes. And voila! That worked as wel l. It worked at a picnic where we sprayed the area around the food table, the children's swing area, and the standing water nearby. During the summer, I don't leave home without it......Pass it on. OUR FRIEND'S COMMENTS: I tried this on my deck and around all of my doors. It works - in fact, it killed them instantly. I bought my bottle from Target and it cost me $1.89. It really doesn't take much, and it is a big bottle, too; so it is not as expensive to use as the can of Bug-spray you buy that doesn't last 30 minutes. So, try this, please. It will last a couple of days. Don't spray directly on a wood door (like your front door), but spray around the frame. Spray around the window frames, and even inside the dog house.
