We're doing one, but I have no idea what it will look like. I like the idea of having a bunch of pies or something instead of a cake, but I suppose I should probably ask the groom what his opinions are. ;)
Your cake sounds super cute!
Oh I shouldmention mine is a total suprise to him he doen't have any idea it's going to be there! :-)
awwww I'm so stelaing your suprise grooms cake idea!!!!
My FH decided he wanted a stack of books...and I was slightly sad. Oh well, maybe I should save my giant rubber ducky cake idea for a baby shower.
I'm still up in the air on this since we're already having a dessert table with different types of cakes - the fact that there will be cheesecake is really all my fiance cares about. Sweeney - I'm actually getting married in the Baltimore area and have seen not great reviews about the taste of Charm City, and they are super expensive. So don't be too sad that they don't ship. ;-) Your cake sounds great!
yep - miniature version of yankees stadium
ooh! this sonds do fun and I never considered it because Koreans really aren't that into dessert... but a surprise groom's cake would be such a great surprise, because I don't think FH has ever even heard of it! haha.
FI is having a #20 Tony Stewart (orange) NASCAR cake. I think this is the thing he has been most excited about so far. And he wants to cut the car-cake down the center and freeze half for our anniversary. He's too funny.
yup, having one at the wedding next to the wedding cake... he's getting a penn state helmet!
My FI is really into the outdoor so he wanted to have smores since we're ending our night with a big bonfire Now the part of the wedding he's the most excited about is picking all the ingredients for his smores bar.
I've never been to a wedding where there was a groom's cake. Is this a regional thing?
jkl, it's a traditionally southern thing. sometimes they're also presented at a rehearsal dinner instead of the ceremony, so you might not see them if you're not a part of the RD.
Sounds like a fun idea, but I think that would be just one more thing I'd have to worry about. I think I'll stick with the cookie table---a staple at Western PA weddings. ![]()
FI was very close to his late grandmother and he loved her applie pies. So we have given her pie recipe to a local baker who is going to make us a bunch of Grandma's Apple Pies as the groom's cake. Which brings up a question. We are expecting 170 guests, so I was thinking of getting a cake that serves 100 and pies for 100? How do you figure out how much of each to get?
My best friend from college is going to make us a groom's cake! She went to culinary school and now is a pastry chef in training! It's going to be in the shape of an Audi (my FI's favorite type of car) and hopefully, if she has time, she'll be able to make a miniture FI to go with it. Posing with his "muscle" car. Cars are so his thing - it'll be so cute!
Oh btw, how large are your groom's cakes going to be? I told my friend that it didn't have to feed the entire party. We'd cut it just to show it off to our guests but then we'd have it wheeled away and hopefully no one will wonder where it went. I figured that we'd just save it for ourselves, immediate family and bridal party. Since I didn't want to make her bake a cake for 200 people!

So I wasn't going to do one, mostly because I was really ticked that Charm City Carks (Ace of Cakes on Food Network) won't deliver to me in MN - LOL. But after a month of looking a found a chake shop that would actually step out side the cake pan and make me something fun for Mr S.
So I'm having a pond made, with him as an 11 year old boy standing on the edge reeling in this HUGE carp - which is actually a depiction of something that happened to him at 11, when he caught a 22 lb fish from a place he fished back in England.
I can't wait to see what it looks like - her stuff is so great!!!
So are you doing one? What will it look like?
