We really want to see it on IMAX, but we'll wait a few weeks. we didn't see avatar until like 4 weeks after opening and it was still packed at the IMAX since it's the only one around.
Yes! We will be going on sunday at IMAX in 3D. But we got lucky, we got our tickets 2 weeks ago online and we picked our seats. so we are smack dab in the middle :)
I don't know! There are so many movies out right now that I want to see!
@ Osaka - That's a smart idea buying them online in advance - wish I would've thought of that.. We tried walking in to the IMAX 3 weeks after opening to see Avatar. Yeah right. Like dachsund said in her reply, when there's just one IMAX, odds are you're gonna be waiting awhile.
I'll probably just go see it in regular 3D. I don't want to miss out on it & wait for IMAX.
Avatar was cool to see in 3D. We waited until it was free at the base theater. We're definitely going to see Alice in Wonderland! I can't resist a Helena Bonhomme Carter / Johnny Depp movie! And I love the twist they gave to the old classic plot!
@ Mighty - I agree. Tim Burton/Johnny/Helena combos are always a hit. I guess that's what happens when 3 best friends make movies together :)
yup - my MOH already bought the four of us (me and him, her and her hubby) tix for sat at the imax!
Going a lil off tangent: When I saw the Alice in Wonderland posters w/ Johnny Depp in it, I thought at first it was Elijah Wood (Frodo in the Lord of the Rings). Do you girls see the resemblance or are my eyes playing tricks on me? =)
PS: Watching Avatar in IMAX 3D is highly recommended!
@ hazel - OMG YES!!!!!!!!! I THOUGHT IT WAS ELIJAH WOOD TOO! (Sorry for the all-caps, but I haven't heard anyone else say that and I've thought it this whole time!)
LOL, queenbee. I wanted to say it to my friends, too! But I thought they'd think I'm crazy! LOL. (They're huge Johnny Depp fans and I was afraid they'd go "Gasp! How dare compare Johnny Depp to a "mere mortal" Elijah Wood!" LOL. A bunch of 'em think JD is the hottest thing since sliced bread....I don't see it at all. (I'm more of a Matt Damon girl. Sooo pretty! LOL)
@ hazel and okqueenbee ... I swear its the eyes. He totally has elijah wood eyes in the posters
@ hazel - Haha! I'm a JD girl too, but I still totally thought it was Elijah. I think it's the eyes and the gap in the teeth.
YES!! I'm going to see it tomorrow night at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood!! The boy got us tickets to see it as a gift to me for Valentine's Day :) We would have seen it tonight except I don't get off of work until 6:30 and driving to Hollywood on a Friday evening is no bueno :/
The theater is supposed to be decorated with scenery from the actual movie set (Disney owns the theater and does cool stuff to it depending what is showing)!! I'm sooo excited :) :)
Ok its both the gap and eyes, I was looking at the LA Times today and could not figure out what it was so thanks bees!
Indeed-y. Love me some Tim Burton.
Avatar in 3D is the way to go. FI and I wound up seeing it twice because we were a bit late to the theater the first go round and got stuck sitting in the very front. Giant, three-dimensional animals thisfarfromyourface do not mix well with popcorn.
i cannot wait to go to the IMAX and see it!
im thinking of going next week sometime after work - hopefully the crowds will have thinned a little by then
Yes. I am going tonight!!!!! YAY!!!! We bought tickets at this super sweet theater ahead of time (like 3 days ago) and they have ASSIGNED seats! Best thing ever! We're going with another couple, so we can walk into the theater as late as we want and there will be 4 seats together for us! I love that place, plus free parking in downtown Chicago is almost unheard of! Yay! I am super excited, I have been since I heard about it 3 years ago!
I just have to say that I'm a huge Elijah Wood fan and never once thought Johnny Depp looked like him in the trailors. Elijah looks a lot younger and is cuter, in my opinion of course, than Depp. Also, maybe it's because I know that Elijah has never been in a Tim Burton film.
That aside, I definitely plan on seeing Alice in Wonderland. It looks amazing, I love Tim Burton films, and it would be the perfect movie to see for my birthday in a few weeks.
I really wish that I wanted to see it, but I am ALWAYS disappointed by Tim Burton movies. Like I had such high hopes for Willy Wonka and it was so bad. I like his movies better when they are less mainstream.
Not really interested in it. For some reason Johnny Depp and the Pig Lady kinda freak me out!
i wish i could see it tonight, but i hate when the theater is crowded, so i guess im going to have to wait a while
So has anyone seen this movie? I've heard it got some good reviews and some bad reviews, but I'm still curious about it so it's likely that my husband and I will go see it tomorrow, probably in IMAX.
@azula: the visual effects of the movie were FANTASTIC. The acting was great. As far as the story line.. it ran a little to fantasy for my tastes. I know that sounds silly, but the cartoon version was so imaginative and weird. This version had a definite story line and it changed a few too many things (like calling "wonderland" "underland" too make it seem darker i guess?).
I would go see it with expectations to see a great visual, typically dark, Tim Burton movie but not for a great story line.
@babyboo -- Thanks for the info! Interesting, calling Wonderland "underland". It does make it seem darker, being "under" instead of "wonder" ("wonder" just sounds more whimsical). If the effects were good, then that means it's definitely worth seeing in IMAX :)
I just got back from seeing it. It's amazingly gorgeous. The landscapes, the chessboard scene, the two queens' castles (oh. my. god). The plot is OK if maybe some of the ways they imagined it were a little much. It's definitely one of those movies that is more for looking at than it is for the script. The costume design, the backgrounds... just wow. We saw it in 3D which I would definitely recommend if you can - first 3D movie I've seen since I was a kid!

I want to see it, but I'm definately not going to on opening weekend. I haven't even seen Avatar yet! When we went, the tickets were sold out and that was 3 weeks after it came out!
I hope Alice is a little easier to get in to see.
