Are you having the dollar dance? My family wants me to have it. My FI and I don’t care for it too much. His side of the family has never had it. I guess I’m not sure what we will do yet. It’s not like a few extra bucks for the honeymoon would hurt us, but I don’t know if the people from his family who don’t normally do this tradition will think it is tacky.

It’s actually very, very common to do around here (I’m from Texas), but we won’t be doing it…I’m just not really a fan.

The only wedding I’ve seen it done, it was hilarious. I didn’t find it tacky at all, and neither did anyone else. The best part was that mostly men danced with the groom, haha!
Anyway, we’re doing it. Not to be selfish, but we could use any money.. Plus we just think it’s a fun tradition.

I’ve only seen it done once and I wasn’t a fan. We’re def not going to have this at the wedding

I’ve seen it to almost every wedding I’ve been to. We’re from Kansas. It’s a fun tradition and we’ll be doing it! But some people do think it’s tacky… not around here so much though.

We will be doing it! It is a tradition in my hometown, and I’m sure if I do in here (Texas) won’t be too bad.

My FI’s family thinks its crazy but its a tradition in my family. We’re having a laid back fun wedding so we hope they see the humor in the tradition.

we’re not dancing, so it’s a no for us. we wouldn’t do it anyway, my personal feeling is that people give you money as gifts, they shouldn’t have to give you more. but i realize it’s a tradition in some places, so more power to you!

@ DarlingNikki….. so its not a cultural thing for your family nor a tradition as youve only seen it the once and your admitting youre doing it just for the money

@eloping: Umm, nope! I said it’s hilarious and fun, and yes, money’s involved, but nowhere did I say we’re doing it just for the money! I’ve only been to three weddings, and two were backyard weddings, and no one in my family has had a big wedding like we’re trying to plan, so that’s probably why I’ve only seen it once and why it’s not a tradition in my family.
Like I said, the one wedding we saw it in, it was hilarious and most of the guys danced with the groom. That’s why we’re doing it. Because it’s fun and funny. Money’s just an added bonus to the fun. Sorry if that was misinterpreted.

We’re definitely doing the dollar dance. It’s not about the money (I mean, its only a dollar…) It is a great opportunity for me to get face time with each of my guests one-on-one. We will have about 150 people at our wedding, and our church does not allow a receiving line. I’m really looking forward to getting the time to dance and chat with all of my family and friends!
