I see so many posts here about people buying custom dresses off etsy.
Which seems so stange to me, because I could never do that without in-person consultations. I’m in a lucky position because my mom sews (and has made people wedding dresses), so I’m getting mine made for free and made to my body. Even if she wasn’t my mom, I would definitely find a local seamstress before venturing online.
Has anyone seeked out someone in their area to make their dress?

Yes, I am. My dream dress is the one Audrey Hepburn wore in ‘Roman Holiday’ so a friend of mine who used to be a wedding dress maker but now does costumes for local theatre productions is making mine. I asked her when I was 17 if she would make my dress one day and she was chuffed to keep our agreement! 🙂
Can’t stand the thought of buying a dress from a shop that 100s of other women will have the same one!

Yes, I will have someone make my dress. I agree with MissBettsy: . I can’t stand dresses that all the other girls will wear, and I dont like modern sleeveless numbers anyway. This is what I want, or style, but I think I want blue, not white.

Yeah… I have never wanted a white dress (I mean when I was a kid, I was dreaming about a red, purple, blue, gold, etc. dress). I still can’t figure out what color I want…working on that.
And my body type doesn’t usually fit into mass-produced clothes (small girl with a big chest). so i would need alterations no matter what.
I wouldn’t want to have it custom made without meeting the seamstress in person because i’m a very visual and hands-on person, plus i’m super picky and i constantly change my mind.

Yes, that’s what I did. The wedding dress I wanted didn’t exist, so there was no choice really.
