I'm wondering if any of you creative bees out there are paying tribute to your first date in any way (venue? details?) on your wedding day. I just read a story about a couple that got married at Starbucks because that's where they had their first date - and I thought it was kind of cute.
Personally, our first date was a trip to Cold Stone Creamery...and the next day he showed up at my parent's house (we were still in high school) with a pint of the same flavor I had gotten the night before! It's still is our go-to place for special celebrations, like when he got a promotion at work or when I found out I got into law school. :)
I don't think we're going to incorporate Cold Stone into our wedding in any way, but I'd love to hear if any of you are paying tribute to your first date on your wedding day. Maybe I'll change my mind and find a way to work in the ice cream.
Ours was at a fetish party, so I don't think it would be terribly appropriate. It would be VERY funny, though!
We did! Our first date was at a wine tasting. We got married at the same winery the wine tasting was at :)
This is going to sound totally insane, but yes sort of in an informal way. Our first date was to Whataburger. Yay being broke! So, since we aren't having a meal at our reception and are leaving two days later for a very expensive honeymoon, we decided instead of some fancy resturant for after the wedding, we are going to Whataburger. Full wedding outfit and all. :)
No or we'd be getting married at Earls restaurant. Lol.
Cute about the Sbux wedding though!
Good idea! Our first date was to a baseball game, so I could definitely see incorporating that into a small detail somehow. Like having the guests throw baseballs at us as we run to the limo? ;) No but really, we could incorporate that in a ton of ways... fun idea!
I think that would be totally cute - I'm pretty sure COldstone does cater, it could be a very cute and awesome dessert!
@SpecialSundae: hahahahh OMG, I love this.
Our whole wedding will have touches of the reason we met: Radiohead! From the music to quotes to table numbers (maybe) to the custom cuff links he'll wear to the string quartet cover as I walk down the aisle... Radiohead will be there with us.
We're inviting them to the wedding, too. But yeah... uhh they probably won't come.
We're also going to see them in Florence for part of our honeymoon!
Radiohead radiohead radiohead... sheesh.
I don't think there would have been a feasible way to do so without being odd. We saw a movie we both hated (so bad, so so SO bad), threw tortillas off a bridge (town traidtion), and DH had custard because he forgot I get really sick from dairy products.
If you both like coldstone, I think have icecream as part of your dessert (with the cake?) would be cute.
@chasesgirl: That's so unique!
@AnneTossy: I think it's awesome that you guys are getting married at a winery, especially if that's where your first date was. I love wine myself, but my FI is more of a beer kind of guy. I somehow convinced him to do a wine box ceremony, though. :)
@All In: I'm sure there's some way you could incorporate in baseball! Maybe not having them thrown at you, haha. But if you guys are really into baseball, maybe your cake topper? Or something else small like that.
@SpecialSundae: That's hilarious!
As for our own wedding and Cold Stone, I really like the idea of an ice cream bar but it's just not really financially doable for us. I'm thinking FI and I will have to make a trip there the Sunday after to celebrate, though.
Haha, no but that's probably because we just went to the mall and saw Superbad then ate food court Chinese.
@msbadger7: You could at least do an ice cream groom's cake! :)
We kind of are. We are going for our marriage license on the 15th anniversary of our first date. Also, ironically the building where we have to go for the marriage license is where we saw each other again. We were high school sweethearts, and we had seen each other sporadically over the years, but when we saw each other at the courthouse is when we became a couple again. Which explains why it took 15 years to get a license.
@armywifetobe12: That is super adorable! My FI and I are high school sweethearts who reunited after a few years apart as well. And how sweet that you get to go back to the place where you reunited to get your marriage license. :)
@msbadger7: We did some of our day after pics at the Starbucks we went to at the end of our first date! We also did a s'mores bar since that's the dessert we ordered at dinner on our first date.

Probably not. Our first date was at a friend's birthday party, and he's the best man, so it may come up but we aren't planning anything specifically to reference it. It was just talking and then making out in a bar while we were both pretty wasted, so...nothing super special worth commemoration.
We met online and our first "meeting" was at a Starbucks. But our first "real" date after that was a day in NYC. We spent a lot of time hanging out in Central Park, going to the zoo, and just sitting around in different spots and talking, getting to know each other. One of the areas was Bethesda Fountain, so we are having our ceremony there!

My original idea was to get married the day after what would have been our 3rd dating anniversary but the place was booked. In hindsight, thank goodness since the weather on that day was AWFUL and the weather on our day was PERFECT!
Absolutely not! I hate to admit this, but our first date was to go see the first sparkly vampire movie. I knew absolutely nothing about it except that it was a vampire flick. We went opening weekend and were wondering why there were all these 12 year-old girls lined up for it. He told me that I was never allowed to pick a movie again...lol...Maybe that's why it took a year for us to get serious about dating...
@KristenGotMarried: I'm jealous..they are my favorite band! We are leaving for our honeymoon in Italy on the night of July 1st...will just miss the shows! Enjoy it!!
Instead of doing table numbers we did names. So a few of the tables were named after the places we went on our first date.
@msbadger7: I agree with doing the grooms cake a cold stone cake!
@msbadger7: A Cold Stone dessert station would pretty much be the coolest thing ever. You should go for it!
@liartist: Off topic, but your ceremony site is beautiful.
Gosh I hope not. Our first date ended up with me having about twenty stitches in my face, a concussion and amnesia.
We're both semi pro bike racers and I landed bad off a jump. :-)
All kidding aside, we will probably incorporate bikes into the party in same way, shape or form.
Not our first date. But we are going to stop by our high school and take some pictures on the way to our photography site. We started dating in high school, so we (I) think it'd be cute. :-)
It would be fun if you guys had that same ice cream flavor for just the two of you to enjoy with your wedding cake!
The general concept of incorporating your first date into your wedding sounds so sweet!
@liartist: That's going to make for an absolutely beautiful ceremony! Color me jealous. :)
@CMSnails:That's a cute idea!
I'm just worried about having too many desserts at our reception because our venue puts desserts on the table with the meal, plus we're having a regular cake as well. Then again...can you ever have too many desserts? Haha. I do like the idea that others have suggested of the ice cream groom's cake - maybe we'll have to work that in there somehow.
I love all of these stories of how you're all incorporating your first date into the wedding (or why you're not - Lethal Weapon, lol). Keep 'em coming!
We are getting married on the anniversary of the day we met and we are getting pictures taken there in between the ceremony and reception..even though its a dive bar..I think it will be totally cute..
We used to go boxing a lot, and our first date was actually boxing each other (we were friends before we dated, so it's less weird!). I think bringing the gloves and heavy bag to the wedding might set the wrong tone, haha!
We're just getting married that day, our 9year anniversary.
@msbadger7: We did! We did! At first we were going to actually semi-elope by having just our officiant and parents attend and we were going to do it at my front door and recreate our entire "first meeting" of me opening the front door and him standing there.
On that first date he was standing there with a white orchid plant for me.
As more people expressed the desire to be a part of our day, we ended up with a larger group and didn't end up doing the front door idea, but our centerpiece on our altar was a large white orchid display and we told the entire story, as well as some others.
Our guests expressed how they really enjoyed the story telling as many didn't know the details and found it fun/entertaining to learn.
Well we tried to aim for the 17th of the month (first date was January 17) but in March when all our kids have Spring Break is the only 17th to be a weekend, and my son already booked and put money down on a FL trip sooooo not happening. We don't live in the same state anymore so we can't go to the same restaurant and our date is the 16th.
His friend who locked his keys in the car, resulting in them still being at the place where I came in and we really started talking (all known each other since we were kids but lost touch) is one of his groomsmen.
I would like to, but not sure how.
We had our first date at a mexican restaurant...the mexican restaurant was used as a clue for the crossword puzzle I made as part of our programs.
A couple I photographed had their first look at a Starbucks near the venue because they met at one...it was so cute and fitting because they love it!
We're getting married in the same city as our first date. Our first date: went over to his place after a conference. He made me tofu stir fry and then we went to a bar/club that let in under 21 year olds that has since closed and has been re-zoned as residential. We will be playing some club music at the wedding, but not out of tribute.
We are getting Married on our 6th Anniversary, I guess that is why it has taken us so long! :o)
We are having fun games during our recpetion and one part of it will be something like who knows the couple best. The game will be played per table. I plan on having the DJ/MC ask a number of couple questions and have the tables team up and answer them. It may be a total of like 10 questions and then we will say the answers seeing who knows the couple best. One of the question will be where was our first date? We also, made a wedding photo book and it mentions our first date in the book.
We are going to have our rehearsal dinner at the restaurant where we had our first date!
Mike and I have been aquainted since 1994. He is actually my best friends Brother n Law. Well I was taking pictures at his nephew's 13th birthday party (10/11/2008) and Mike was sitting at a table all alone. I snapped a picture and walked away. He called for me to come back, asked why I took the picture, and I said memories, (meaning for his nephew). Yeah well, after talking the rest of the night, I ended up giving him my phone number. He called me 6 weeks later (11/24/2008). Our first date was on 11/25/08 and we knew within a week that we were hooked.
Our rehearsal dinner is at the same restuarant we had our first date. Our wedding venue is the same place that the birthday party was, and we are getting married on the patio where I took that picture of Mike, while the reception will be inside where the party was going on.
That night we are going to a hotel on Hollywood Beach, which is where we went after dinner to walk and talk for about an hour.
So yeah, I think we are all set on that.
Lol, no...it was at Denny's...and we decided later to count it as the first date because, to be honest, we don't know when we started dating.
