Are you going to move into your FI's place or is your FI moving into yours? Or a new place? I guess you just choose the best out of the two, right?
We are waiting till we get married until we move in together, but it's been a hard decision for us. My apt is nicer, like more modern, but his is bigger. We don't have a choice of moving to a new place $$$
I moved in with him before we were even officially a couple, lol, but we have been living with my parents because my dad is sick, and that is where we will be for the forseeable future.
I had an apartment before he was old enough to get a place and move out of his parents' house, so he moved into my place.
I first moved into his parent's house for about a year. We recently just got our own apartment and moved in a week ago.
i wanted him to move into my place because i loved it at the time. he wasn't so psyched about it because he couldn't visualize how his stuff would fit in there. but then we found out my landlord wouldn't let us get a pet, and we were having puppy-fever really badly. so we moved to a new place so we could get a dog. i love our dog, but almost 4 years later i still miss that apartment! silly landlord ;)
He moved into my place. My apartment was larger, with more bedrooms and in a nicer part of town. We were together for two years before he moved in and have been living together for three years now. We will be in the same apartment until we eventually buy a house.
He moved into my place after he graduated college, and we were there for two months before finding a new place altogether. We had planned to stay at my place until we bought our own house in a few years, but my old place was disgusting and the landlord sucked so we moved.
Moving into his place, which was his parents house. Well, I've pretty much moved now, just have a few small things left at my place.
It was our only option. FI farms an hour out of the city where I lived, so I had to move out to him. The reason behind his parents house; after FI took over the farm, FMIL and him decided that when he got married, him and the wife would move into the house on the yard and FMIL would move into a house in town. So here we are!
FI has a house that we are currently renovating.... after its done, he'll live there for a bit til we get closer to the wedding, then i'll move in. :)
We moved into a new place together. My old place was pretty awesome, but he said it never felt like home to him. I'm really glad we picked the new place, though, since now we can decorate it and furnish together, and it really is ours.
I originally moved into his apartment. My lease was up and I was out of work at the time, so I was going to move back in with my parents, and he asked me to move in with him instead (this was 8 years ago now LOL). Then a few years later we moved into a renal house, then in the beginning of 09 we bought our house. So, it's our place now. Not mine or his. Ours :-)
We both lived with our parents. He had just moved back in, and I was living there cuz i was a single mom, so we got a new place together.
He was living with his parents and I was living in a dorm... So we moved into our own place. :)
We got a new place together. I had just moved back in with my parents after buying a place with them, and I knew I did not want to move into his place. It was nice and big is near the subway, but he had been living there for about 10 years on his own/with roommates, so I thought that it would always feel like HIS place, you know?
We both had small one bed room apartments and when we decided to live together we found a three bedroom house we rent. After 3 years of renting we are now looking to buy.
We got a new place together - i had "moved home" right when we got engaged to save money but i basically lived at his house and while i was super comfortable there i didnt have a space of my own and all my stuff was in storage so it was important for me to "start fresh" in a new place- we both had 1 bedroom apartments prior to getting married and since we each had a houseful of things we needed a bigger space to store it all so we moved into a 2 bedroom apt much nicer than either of ours - it was a good move, we will sign another year lease in february and then hopefully look for a house.
I moved into FH's house. My condo is a lot nicer and newer with more closet space, but he has a garage and a huge backyard. Those go along with his multiple cars and his (now our) dog. Also trying to rent his house would be harder than renting my condo, which is what we do now.
I was living with my parents and after his second unpleasant roommate situation in a year, I agreed to move in with him. At first I was worried about how much the place would still feel like "his" instead of "ours" but he was really accommodating and a few big changes to the place really helped. Like storing the poker table in the dining room and getting an actual dining room table. And buying a new bed (no more futon! Yay!) and moving all the non-bedroom stuff out and into the second bedroom / office. Although I must say it was still way better when we finally got out of there and bought a house TOGETHER.
I had been house hunting before meeting FI and purchased a house a few months into our relationship. He unofficially moved in as soon as I took ownership of the house, and officially moved in when his lease ended about four months later. So "my house" has pretty much been "our house" since the day I bought it.
We also didn't live together until we were married, but we moved into an entirely new place.
In our first year of university my parents bought me a condo and he rented an apartment. We had been dating a year but my parents wanted us to get used to school first before we lived together. Because paying half the mortgage would be cheaper (and my place was a bit nicer), he moved into my place at the beginning of second year (: We're in our third year of school now and things are going great.
I thought I for sure was in the majority moving into his place. Love Bee polls!
I moved into his place because my lease was up first, so it was all about timing.
Once his lease was up, we decided to start afresh together and get a new place.
I like the way we did it; there's something special about getting that first place that is new to both of you. :)
He bought, I was renting. It was a no-brainer for me to move into his place (and upgrade from a tiny one-bedroom to a nice 3 bedroom single family!). He bought while we were together, though, and I did help him pick out the house, and we did all the work on it together, so it's never felt like anything other than our home.
As an aside, it's also the first home I've live in full time for more than a year in over 20 years. I split time between homes after my parents' divorce and lived out of a suitcase basically all through college, then after college I bounced continuously until I landed here. So really, this is one of the first "homes" I've ever known.
We got a new place together. We got engaged around the same time that FI was switching jobs and moving to my town from 1hr away. I had been living at home and spending 3-4 nights with FI and commuting.
We hadn't planned on living together until we were married, but logistically/financially it made sense to get a place together when FI moved. At least we made it to engagement :)
We will be getting a place together post-marriage.
We kind of did all the options?
First I moved in with him and his mom, then we got an apartment together, then he inherited a house from family so we moved back there...so I went from his place to our place to his place again?
That's where we hope to stay for a long time. He and I are not planning on going any where anytime soon after all the moving in the past year!
I moved into his place. For his 3bdrm 'bachelor' pad consisted with 3 gigantic TVs (one in master, one in workout rm, one in living rm), queen sz mattress, sofa, and elliptical.
We'll be finding a new place together when we move in together, since currently I live with my parents & he is staying at his aunt's while completing an internship in another city (while he was living in the city, he lived with his parents).
He moved in with me about a month after we started dating officially (we dated in high school and have been close for years, so it wasn't that strange) and soon after, we moved into our first apartment. A few months later, we moved into another new place.
I guess we've done 2 and working on 3. He's moved in with me and I've moved in with him, we're now working on moving to a new place together.
He moved in with me (and friends) last year for a year. Then we moved out (as I finished uni), we both moved cities (to different ones from each other), so he could be closer to work and so I could live in my hometown with family for free. I couldn't afford to live with him so he could got an appartment with his best mate. Then I got a job where he was, so moved in with him (them) and that's where we are atm. Soon we will move to a new place to save money.
I moved into his rather small apartment about a year ago, but now we live is a more spacious townhouse. I don't suggest living together for every couple, but it worked out for us. :)
I'm thinking we might start out with me moving into his place depending on the situation, but he does want to get something else in the long run.
He actually lives on his own in an apartment in town. I, on the other hand, am a live-at-home daughter and always have been. I hadn't planned on it through any part of college, let alone beyond, but I got talked into it (something about me "not being ready" to be out on my own according to my parents, at least my dad anyway). When I finished high school and started college, I remained with my mom (whom I had been living with since my parents' separation; she remarried during my sophmore year of high school). After I finished college, I moved in with my dad (something else I was more or less talked into for reasons I'm not going to go into). That lasted nine-and-a-half months due to health issues on my dad's end (the year being 2009). Since then, I've been back with my mom and stepdad.
My older sister, who actually has experience living away from parental authority and who now lives with her boyfriend (who's also the father of the child she had in late August) had suggested that my FI and I consider living together at some point before marriage so that 1) I can get used to living with someone of equal status as me and 2) he and I can figure out how we want certain things to be done in the home. FI had said that he wouldn't really have a problem with me living with him at this point if money was not such an issue. (There was a time when I would've been hesitant to have anything to do with premarital cohabitation. During the pre-engagement stage of my relationship with FI, I don't think I could have in good conscience move in with him without 1) him being on board with it and 2) me having the means to help out with bills and what not.) When we marry or whenever it is feasible for him to take me in, whichever comes first, either I'll move into the place he has now with him or we'll get something different together. But for now, we're basically sticking to me spending the night with him once or twice a month.
We moved in together after college, so our apartment is OUR place. We're going to buy a condo in the new year, so that will be our place as well!
He's going to move in with me. I have my own apt and he lives with roommates.
We got a new place together, being as though we both lived with our parents beforehand, moving in with the other was not really a suitable option as much as we love our in-laws!
@Garnety: FH moved in with me, although he moved in before we got engaged. My place is nicer and also more conveniently located, so it made sense! :)
We moved into one of my rental properties (a house)....and the reason this worked so well was because..... I never lived in that house, it was always a rental property for me.....(so new to the both of us)... So when the tenants moved out, we had the house completely renovated, purchased all new furniture, and it's just as if we moved into something new.... we love it...it's only been 4 months so far but no complaints here!!
