Yep, totally. Higher chance of miscarrying if you're overweight. Why put yourself through that heartache?
I need to lose about 60-80, ideally, but I'd like to be under 200, which is only 25 pounds away. So it's do-able.
@bebefly: Wow, I didn't know there was a higher miscarriage rate! Yeah, I definately want to get under 200lbs as well. I also want people to be able to tell I am pregnant, not just fat
I would reccomend it. I lost weight for getting pregnant with my first daughter. But for this current one I did not (probably could have lost 15 lbs). I think its worth it so you are in optimal shape- not that you have to be a supermodel- but every little bit helps.
I've already lost about 70, but I'd like to lose another 50 to be at my goal weight. We're offically TTC this cycle as soon as AF disappears, however, so IDK, lol. FI just doesn't want to wait any longer. Our DD is going to be 7 in Sept., so I think it's about time, too.. but. :P
@Tswife4ever: sorry, I shouldn't speak like its a definite. But it does make sense - and regardless, it's harder to get pregnant the more overweight you are. :)
Any doctor will tell you that you should lose weight if you want to get pregnant. If you are already overweight, why even risk it? You have two years. With dedication and focus, you can lose the weight to be healthy enough to have healthy pregnancy.
I firmly believe the reason I got pregnant was because I lost 35 lbs and that was for the wedding and ended up pregnant.
I want to be in the best shape possible when I get pregnant, labor terrifies me and I think being in really good shape will make it easier.
We are going to start trying in oh, about 3 weeks. Eeek! For the past two years I have built a regular exercise habit at the gym and have lost about 15-20lbs or so pounds. I'd like to lose more before we start trying but I'm almost 38 and I don't want to delay trying. I think the exercise and being in better shape will help me more than anything. I guess we'll see soon. :)
I am not plus sized, but I plan on it. I fall in the 'overweight' category, and to be honest, I know that if I have a kid with the lifestyle I have there is NO CHANCE I will ever lose the baby fat, etc. I'm hoping that if I can obtain a healthy lifestyle before a kid, then once I have a baby it'll be easier to ease back into it.
i want to lose weight before getting preggers for purely selfish and vain reasons. i want a cute baby bump.
We are getting married in November and thinkikng about trying in a year or two. I am going to start taking prenatal vitamins and try to lose at least 45 pounds to be under 200 lbs. I don't want any of the complications that are associated with being overweight. Losing weight will also help with the labor which is absolutly terrifying to me.
FI and I are about two years away from TTC, and a little over 10 months away from getting married. I want to lose weight for our wedding. I lost 35 lbs about two years ago, but I have put it back on. I have started up Weight Watchers and built in an exercise routine. One big concern for me is the possibility of gestational diabetes. Type 2 runs in my family, and my mom was tested for gestational when she was pregnant with me (though I was only 7 lbs, 10 oz when I was born). Plus, I do want to be healthier. I need to get better at making good choices.
After the wedding I would love to lose weight before TTC. My biggest goal is obtaining a healthy lifestyle before trying for a baby. With a healthy lifestyle will come the weight loss (I hope!). I just want to be able to raise children with good eating/exercising habits. I know I wouldn't be able to do that now since I can't do that for myself at the moment.
Good to see others have the same plan. I'm currently working on loosing weight so we can start a family. There are so many health risks involved with being overweight while pregnant...its just not worth it. Plus, I want to LOOK pregnant, not just fatter. And afterwards I want the energy to play with my future kids and the knowledge to teach them healthy eating right from the start. There are just endless reasons to get to a healthy weight for our future family there is no excuse not to do it.

DH and I have been talking about our future lately and have decided that we would like to try for a baby in two years. One thing I told him was that I wanted to lose weight before getting pregnant. Being that I am already overweight, I don't want to have added medical complications or health risks. Are theye any other plus sized bees who plan on losing weight before TTC?
