Hey jjilyeah – I’m no longer a waiting gal but I saved for the wedding almost the entire time my FI was saving for the ring; I figured it was only fair that we both be poor at the same time Smile

It definitely worked for us so if sounds right for you and your SO, I say go for it 🙂 If anything, it’ll just give you a little cushion to the wedding fund!

Yes, I started saving two months ago and I’m hoping for an August 2011 wedding. I’ve been using http://www.smartypig.com to put away my savings (great site!) and have been trying to save $1000 per month. It’s been working out well so far!

Part of the reason I am waiting is purely due to money! We are paying off some debt and saving up for any costs a wedding may include too – as impatient as I am getting, I know deep down this is the best way to go… if he was to propose, I dont think I could stop myself planning the wedding and then we would find ourselves with more debt! Just need to keep saving and working hard to get there!

No I’m not saving for the wedding specifically.  I always put money away every month for various things.  I am buying a car next month and would like to buy bedroom furniture and a washer/dryer eventually, I also like to have some money save just in case…I suppose some of my savings would go to the wedding eventually, but I am not specifically thinking of it when I’m putting the money away.

He and I both are making an effort to not over-spend, and keep growing our savings. I’ve got a “dress fund” going already. 🙂

When I graduated from college, I picked up “The automatic millionaire” which gave me the idea to put away a portion of my paycheck into my savings account before it gets into my checking account for future expenses.  Doing so I was able to buy a house prior to meeting fiance.  In a ways, I’ve always been saving…

I’m putting away $500 per month, and will likely bump it up to $1,000 a month once he actually proposes.  We’re totally on our own with paying for this wedding and I don’t want to have a multi-year engagement in order to pay for it, so it just makes sense.

We both started separate savings accounts before we got engaged – more or less after we had our first serious marriage conversation. I wish I had more cash to sink into it, but I knew saving would be a slow process. Since I couldn’t save a whole lot per month, starting early would guarantee by the time he got around to proposing, I’d have a good start. Part of me wishes we were getting married this year, but my job was so crazy up until about a month ago that I knew I’d need at least a year. Sigh. I say if you have the money to save, start saving!!

OOOOHHHH!  Good question!  We actually have an account that he calls the “special” account.  He refuses to call it the wedding account.  But it has more saved in it then any other saving account.  That’s a good sign!

I just started myself a seperate saving as a wedding fund. Nice to know that other people do this too. 🙂

Went to smartypig.com and they have a great APR.  So I asked if we could move our “special” fund over there to make some extra cash.  My BF said there was no point because there would not be enough time to accrue anything from the interest.  I told him I didn’t know the timeline, because obviously he didn’t propose yet.  he said that it would happen “getting married” in a year or two.  Which means (I HOPE) that he has to propose soon.  YEAH!
