    Hello ladies!

I am having my wedding in the beautiful St. Thomas and want to "trash my dress" for pictures but I just feel that my dress is TOO gorgeous for me to do that so I'm debating if i should buy a second dress? What do you guys think? For brides who have done that, tell me what you did!!!

PS- "trashing your dress", for those who don't know, is instead of preserving your dress for future generations, you choose to do something crazy for pictures with your wedding dress on. Example: emersing yourself in water at the beach with your wedding dress on for pictures, or laying down on sand with your new husband while photographers are taking pictures of you, etc.

I did a TTD session but I didn't really want to ruin my dress so I asked my sister if i could use hers (she got married in 2000 but divorced a few years later). In all honesty though I could have worn mine. It didn't get as messy as I thought it would - just be careful to look where you sit! I barely avoided a rock with tons of algea on it that would have def gotten on and stained my dress.

Here are my pics if you want to check them out! http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/trashed

I am going to, and I can't wait!! That's one of the reasons I wanted a DW! I think I'm going to get a second dress, maybe a replica off the Internet or eBay.

I love my dress way too much to "trash" it.  If you are determined to get the pictures (and in St Thomas, I bet they would be fabulous), get a second dress!  Then you have those pics and also a dress to preserve for your daughter or whatever reason you want to keep it.  Then again, if you don't plan on preserving your dress, you might as well trash it...

@pappy8 - What are you doing for the photoshoot? I planned on doing something with the beach (sand, and/or water) so I'm sure I'll ruin it. :/

@mrs.folks.to.be:  That i havent figured out yet... i did talk to the photographer and she said it could be as simple as laying in the sand or as elaborate as we want as well... shes pretty high demand where im from so shes done tons of TTD and she said that the dresses are so simple to clean... I'm just hoping not to rip it.

@pappy8 - Oh ok...That sounds like fun! Sounds like she knows what she's doing! Maybe I'll just do the sand thing and not go into the water

I'm tempted to do it. I think it would be awesome, but then I doubt I'd be able to wear it again at an AHR.  That, I believe, will ultimately be the reason I don't do it.

I'm going to buy a knockoff dress to trash and preserve the one I wear in my wedding for my daughter.

I think I'm leaning towards a second dress! Something rather inexpensive just to take the TTD pictures in! Even though my daughter would probably not even want my dress when it's her turn, I think I still want to preserve my gown. But then again....idk....decisions, decisions!!!

Nope! I'm planning on ebaying it afterwards-. It's too pricey to trash, and I should be able to sell it for half what I paid for it.

@rebwana- that has crossed my mind too but I REALLY want the TTD pictures, i think that would look gorgeous! After your wedding you should look into selling it on recycledbride.com or preownedweddingdresses.com rather than ebay. I was going to buy a used dress on that website until i went to the bridal boutique and bought my dress the same day! Lol. Good luck!

We are doing a TTD session, actually the whole wedding party is lol. I'm getting married at a Hot Springs Resort and they have a water slide and pool. So we are ALL getting back into our dresses my real wedding dress and the bridesmaids dresses since they own them and the guys are getting fake tux/suits the day after and starting at the water slide and pool, then going to the bridge with the river! We are all so excited!!!

I can't imagine messing up my dress, its so pretty I feel like I'd regret it. However we are getting married on a lake and it would be awful cool to sit on a dock with our legs in the water, or get a pick jumping in. I don't think I can though!

Nope. Call me old fashioned but I'm hoping it gets packed away and pulled out every 20 odd years by my great great (etc etc) grandchildren to look at!

I would have LOVED to see my grandmother and great grandmother's dresses, even if I never wore them.

I won't. I know most daughters do not wear their mothers dresses, but I happen to be that odd exception. Who knows? Maybe it will become a family tradition?

I am def looking forward to the TTD photoshoot day. I will be wearing the same dress and I am wearing on the wedding day. Ruining it is not a big concern for me it's not something that I would keep for years to come anyway.

i know that dry cleaners do work miracles - so i wouldnt worry as far as to getting it wet in the ocean - that wont do much damage or harm at all! same with sand. but you could very likely get a different dress if you wanted too! personal preference i suppose! But definitely, youll get wonderful pictures!

these arent from our wedding because it hasnt happened yet - but we had a lot of fun taking pictures in the water at one of our ports from a cruise!

i can not wait to do a TTD session! i know i wont be preserving my gown for my kids because chances of them wanting to wear it just isnt likely. i want to do a TTD session on our honeymoon for the water shots - and then when we get back - were going to do one at the Minnesota State Fair!
