My dress is ivory with sparkly beading too, but I really want to wear pearls! (I read Anne of Green Gables too much as a little girl...)
My dress is also very sparkly up around the top (and is strapless) so I'm don't think I'm doing a necklace either. Probably just the earrings and bracelet. But I have no idea what kind yet!
Oh, yeah, my dress is the antithesis of sparkly. So fail, me, fail. :p
I'm wearing a large, single teardrop shaped pearl on a very fine gold chain. It's simple and lovely and rests in just the right spot in between my collarbones. Then for earings I'm wearing the dangling aqua earrings from Anthropologie. They don't match but I think they look great together and with the strapless satin dress I'm wearing (no beading).
I'm wearing diamonds (necklace = something old) and my dress is also beaded on top. I think I will wear studs, necklace and some sort of bracelet which may be pearls. My dress is white so I would need to find some light pearls if I incorporate them.
pearls! So classic. Plus I feel like whatever dress I end up with won't look with diamonds; just not my style. I more or less subscribe to Audrey Hepburn's idea in Breakfast at Tiffany's that wearing alot of diamonds before you're 40 is "tacky" (movie words, not mine!). Alot is over the top. Diamond studs or a pendant = totally okay and chic. But a bib-style necklace of them? It's a bit much (unless you're a PRINCESS! WHEE!)
Both. Pearl necklace (from my parents or aunt--haven't decided on which ones yet0 and diamond earrings (from FI).
I wore both. I had some pearl/diamond earrings, a big diamond necklace, and um. yeah, i rocked some bling. Then i had a really blingy fake bracelet on that was really high quality so it blended w/o looking cheap even tho it was fake.
I think you could do either pearls or diamonds, most likely. Can you show us the beading on your dress at all?
My dress has pearls, sequins and beads along the top of the bodice, but I'm wearing neither pearls nor diamonds! So far it's just gold and silver metal jewelry (although I hear the earrings my aunts are having made have rubies in them... not sure if they'll get worn on game day if they're red! ;).
Neither! I'm wearing lapis lazuli earrings - my something blue : ) Haven't decided yet on the necklace.
I wore pearls (necklace, earrings, bracelet). I also had a strapless dress. Now that I see the pictures I kind of wished I had left the neacklace off.
Neither - wore a big yellow jade stone with citrine, topaz and peridot accents. Wore peridot earrings.
My FI gave me some amazing earrings last Christmas, and they are the only jewelry I'm wearing -
Except mine are clear, not canary. I LOVE them!
My dress has no bling so I think I am just going to do a pearl necklace with dropped pearl earrings!
My dress has almost no bling, except for two little crystal/pearl embellishments at the straps, so it could go either way. I have a diamond engagement necklace and I've hinted that all I'm missing are a lovely pair of earrings to complete the set...just need to see if FI picks up that not so subtle hint!
Yes and yes - well pearls and crystals probably. My earrings are crystal and silver deco-style vintage type. I recently saw some amazing jewelry at TARGET (?!) that was gold with seed pearl and a crystal (lt topaz?)... I'm kinda lusting after that now. I also have a bangle bracelet that's pave set CZ all over it looks sparkly without looking like too much bling...
@fifty - all the more reason for you to be sparkly!!!
My dress has diamond accents only and no pearls, so I am wearing only diamonds. I think it depends on the detail of the dress. If you have a plain dress then you could go either way.
My dress has some sparklies on it too and I'm wearing diamonds. My great grandmother gave me a pair of diamond earings when I turned 18. They happened to be the last present that my great grandfather gave to her before he passed away, so they have a ton of sentimental value to them. I promised her I would wear them on my wedding day...One of my co-workers has a single solitaire diamond necklace that she is letting me borrow on the wedding day, so I'll have my something borrowed!
I'll probably do diamonds, no pearls. If you're doing the dangly earrings I agree with you on not wearing a neckline, it tends to be too much.
i am in a love affair with pearls so yes i will be wearing them in some form or another! i have a strand i want to wear, but i am not sure how they will go with my dress, so i might do a bracelet instead.
I love pearls and have never had such a special occasion to wear them to! I am really excited :) I am wearing chandalier pearl earrings with a classic pearl necklace :) My gown is all lace so I am going for the classic/romantic look!!
Pearls- an old freshwater pearl necklace and bracelet set that my folks got me long ago. Now I just need to make some earrings to match it.
I think pearls are pretty classic with anything. I would only pick diamond if that's your thing.
My dress wasn't sparly at all, but I wore only pearls (earrings, necklace, bracelet)
pearls!!! :) well except for my ring :)
mostly pearls (grandma's bracelet) and a pearl and rhinestone necklace and earings
I am wearing two pearl necklaces and a diamond necklace and drop pearl earrings and bracelets and a feather fascinator. I like to accessorize.
@jmc - how are you doing the necklaces? That sounds really beautiful and interesting! I would love to know what that looks like!
For the poster that asked to see a picture of the dress. Here is it on the model in Champagne (mine is in Ivory, but the beading is the same).
I am wearing diamonds only. In Mexican culture (not sure if maybe it is just around here?) pearls are bad luck to wear at a wedding and while they are some of my favorite gems and I wear them all the time, I am leaving them off for my wedding day and I deliberately chose a dress without them
That being said, pearls are classic and timeless and really do go with EVERYTHING.
I'll probably be wearing diamonds. My FMIL offered to let me borrow a set of her jewelery - she said it would go with my ring pretty well. I thought it was really sweet of her and will probably take her up on the offer :)
Both. My earrings are pearl and crystal ($7.99 from Target!) and I haven't purchased any other jewerly yet.
Since my wedding is New Year's Eve, I do plan on being extra sparkly! :)
My dress will have no bling, sequins, crystals - no nothing! I've even forbidden any shiney fabric - I want everything to be very matte! I'm gonna go with some BIG pearl studs (may or may not be the real deal - depends on the budget!) and I'm not wearing a necklace cos my dress will have a netting overlay kinda like this one from Runaway Bride but my dress will have a sweetheart neckline. I'm still trying to decide about bracelets but I'm thinking not cos I'd really like to rock some cute little wrist length gloves with my 50's tea length prom style dress!

My dress is ivory, but has some sparkly beading on the bodice in certain areas. I'm not sure if I should wear pearls or diamonds. I'm also considering not wearing a necklace at all (the dress is strapless) and going only with dangling earrings and a bracelet. What are you ladies wearing?
