We did write our own, sort of. They’re not individualized, but we wrote our entire ceremony, including the part we say “I do” to and the repeat-after-me vow part.

We did it because in BC the civil ceremony sounds like a legal contract – while that may be technically true, not very romantic!

I don’t think I could have done individual vows, I embarrass too easily.

We completely wrote our own. I don’t like the idea of saying the traditional vows because I feel like it lacks involvement on our part. You can mindlessly repeat and it doesn’t feel as meaningful. Also, there have been so many parts changed/removed because of religious and feminist issues (“Promise to obey” anyone?) that I just wanted to speak from my heart and not have that weighing on my mind. I loved that ours were personal and custom.

We are writing our own vows and also reciting the traditional vows.  We wanted to write our own to make the ceremony more personal.  We’ve been to a lot of weddings and never seen anyone write their own vows which we’re always surprised about.  I’m very excited to write them, it’s one of the things I’m most looking forward to.  We’re also doing the traditional vows because I like them and want to include them as well.

We just felt like the typical vows are not really what we wanted to promise to each other. They don’t adequately express how we feel. Also, we are hopeless romantics and personally I think that there is nothing as sweet and heart touching as hearing someone’s vows written by them.

I really should get to writing them though. He has his just about done!

We are using the traditional vows, I like the idea that so many people have used those same words in their ceremony. Its the same idea as having a white dress to me. It just fits our personal wedding “Dream”

We wrote our own + used the traditional ones. For us, it was one of the most enjoyable and important parts of wedding planning – and writing them together has been one of the most emotionally intimate times we’ve shared yet!

It really meant a lot to personalize that part of the ceremony, and to make specific promises to each other based on our experiences and relationship.

We wrote the whole ceremony ourselves, but we took elements of all kinds of ceremnonies.  The part we didn’t change that much was the hand ceremony, there was something about it that made us both tear up immediately.
