I don't think it is old fashion... I think it can be fun. We are not really going anywhere after the wedding since we are staying at the location but we are having everything outside and will probably do a picture with sparklers as we are leaving to mimic a send off. I think they look cool and are a lot of fun.
Wildflower seeds sound like a good idea if that is your theme.
@Lilacgal: I think its great!!! We ended up doing bubbles which was fun (it was last minute...literally purchased two days before the wedding!!).
I have also heard of throwing dried lavender, which to me seems so romantic (I love the smell)
We're doing dried lavender, but I looked at the wildflower seeds too. I think rice is outdated but not the idea behind it.
We had our guests blow bubbles at us and I love the pictures with the bubbles! They look so fun and it turned out great!
We're doing the sparklers too but I've seen pictures with rose petals and it looks gorgeous. The wildflower seeds sounds like a fun idea too!
I love that tradition! I think it's adorable and you should definitely go for it. I'm considering bubbles for mine, but flowers and seeds will also be pretty : ]
I wasn't going to do anything but reading about the sparklers I may have just changed my mind!
@Orange Snakeskin: You can find them on teh weddingbee classifieds sometime or www.sparklersonline.com is a good website.
No nothing will be thrown at our wedding.. while I do like some of the pictures I've seen of this, most of the items thrown, need to be cleaned up afterwards, I like bubbles or balloon releases but again not at my own wedding
We plan on using the eco friendly confetti. I've seen some online for a great price and should be cheaper than bubbles. Plus, it'll wash away when it rains so there is no clean up which I love.
we're throwing rose petals during the recessional. our grand exit will be a second line, so nothing thrown.
I am bummed because we can't throw anything or have bubbles. It's not allowed at our venue. Neither are and we can't do sparklers either. I was thinking of maybe doing glow sticks, but I can't decide if I like it or not.
Heads up on the sparklers and bubbles girls...
I heard of a wedding where the bride's dress was singed and burnt from the flying sparks of sparklers! And same for bubbles...they can stain some wedding dress fabrics! SO just be careful!
I loved the ribbon wands Miss Cinnamon Bun posted about as an alternative to throwing anything! http://www.weddingbee.com/2010/11/30/printing-on-ribbon/

We're considering having our guests "throw" or "shower" us as we leave the reception and head for our honeymoon. Is this idea too old-fashioned and out-dated? I believe the tradition was to shower the couple with love, blessings, good wishes, health, prosperity, and even fertitlity.
In keeping with our spring flower wedding theme,we are considering having guests throw wildflower seeds. Love to hear the Hive's thoughts on this idea.
