Since J Crew launched their line of rewearable bridesmaid dresses, rewearable bm dresses are here to stay!
Back in the day when I got married, everyone purchased bm dresses. Are you opting for off the rack dresses for your maids? If so, from where?
Off the rack! Mine are little black dresses from the White House Black Market outlet. I liked them so much, I got one for myself to wear in the future! :)
My gals chose black dresses from JCrew. I wanted them to find something that they liked and would definitely wear again. I've worn some icky BM dresses in the past, so I felt good paying this one forward. :)
They're wearing Adrianna Papell dresses from nordstrom.com. Even though one of their dresses was so big, she was able to keep the dress that was too big until the smaller dress came in.
Definitely not into the typical "bridesmaid" look. I've always thought they are awful.
My sister, and only chosen attendant for me, will wear a dress that was designed especially for her. It is re-wearable and maybe the best dress I've ever seen.
If I can find something i like and that looks good I'm all for them wearing something off the rack.
We're getting convertible dresses from Etsy. This way they'll be similar but the girls can do whatever they want on the top. And there's lots of fabric for the skirt, which is key for my friend trying to get pregnant!
I am only having a MOH and we have not quite chosen her dress yet but it will definitely be off the rack. She had seen a beautiful one from White House Black Market so that may be the place where we eventually get the dress.
My bridesmaids wore black off-the-rack cocktail dresses from Talbots, of all places!
My gals are wearing burgundy sleeveless braja dresses (rayon embroid. dresses from India).
I guess mine are all "real" bridesmaids dresses since they are After Six. They are def rewearable though and my maids picked it out on their own after I made a bunch of suggestions! :)
My girls are wearing dresses that were marked down from Dillards!! They are chocolate brown and they can definately keep them to wear at another time for some formal occassions!
I just purchases a J.Crew bridesmaid dress for a wedding I'm in and I love it. For my own wedding, I chose BM dresses, but I took my sister (and Matron of Honor) with me so I could be sure it would be something she would wear again. I even purchases one for myself in a different color and am wearing it to the rehearsal dinner! I think more and more designers are coming up with "rewearable" dresses. For ANOTHER wedding I'm in, she chose off-the-rack dresses for us, and I'll NEVER wear it again.
I love the J Crew dresses! They look so flattering, but just wouldn't fit with the style of our wedding. I searched & searched for the right BM dresses and found them somewhere I never expected - Dillards. I chose gorgeous strapless Max & Cleo dresses (BCBG) & lucked out with the timing since they were 30% off!
Mine are all poicking their own dresses. I'll arm them with swatches and a few guidelines, but the rewearable thing is important to me. (Chocolate brown dresses)
I chose bm dresses from Jordan Fashions, but they are cocktail length, so they don't look bridesmaidy to me. I think it's a happy medium.
I am definitely going to look for off the rack dresses for my bridesmaids. I am leaning towards Anthropology or J.Crew.
We are lucky to live near downtown Los Angeles, so we'll be heading to the Fashion District to pick out the BM dresses. I have been a BM in several weddings, and all of my dresses were from the Fashion District... they all cost about $40-50 each. You can't beat a deal like that!! :)
Off the rack! The girls got their Adrianna Papell dresses from nordstrom.com.
Pretty sure that mine are going to be from JCrew (finalizing details now...)...they are technically not in the store because they are from the wedding section...but I suppose you can call them "off the rack"
It's a mixture because I let them choose the dress within certain parameters. Some bought their dresses from bridal salons, while other bought them off the rack (like nordstrom.com)
Off the rack from Nordies. It was the perfect solution since my pretty maids live all over and it would have been a huge hassle to make sure a single dress fit them all perfectly. But Nordstroms has a spectacular return policy, so if anything didn't work out it could easily go back!
Off the rack from The Limited! After student and opening-a-credit-card discounts they were about $65.
We bought the bridesmaids' dresses before I was really 'into' Weddingbee, so I had no idea that anyone even considered buying dresses at department stores, although I knew about J. Crew and Ann Taylor. But I remember when we bought the dresses, I felt guilty about the price (they were around $120 and my girls paid for them), but I assuaged my guilt by saying "dresses at Macy's cost more than this".
My bridesmaids are wearing long, black dresses from Dillards, JCPenneys and Macys. I wanted them to be comfortable. Each dress is different. I'm so excited. I have been a bridemaid 9 times and I have never worn the dress again. These they can wear again and they are excited about it.
Mine are from Spiegel!!!! So they are off the internet! They weren't that much less than a regular BM dress, but I love them and the color is really cool. The metallic threading will pick up the deep purple flower I will have them hold. The color is called "bronze" but it's really brown with silver threading. (You can't tell they're brown because there is so much silver, so it kinda tricks your eye and turns colors.) They came in really quickly and will look great with everyone's skin tone. Also has the potential of a New Year's dress if shortened! 3 cheers!
I will have the ladies wear their own silver shoes (thinly strapped preferrably) and the jewelry will be crystal.
Personally, I don't see why it's so important for the maids to be able to wear them again. Part of the inate cruddiness of being a BM is that you have to do a lot of one-time spending. Even so, at least girls even get to keep their dresses, groomsmen usually have to rent their tuxes.
That being said, I got very pretty "real" dresses for my girls that I already know one or two of them have set aside occasions to wear them again. It just happened to work out that way.
I also feel like its a lot easier to do something off the rack if you are having a summer or spring wedding where you can put them in something short. I feel like long just doesn't work like that.
i am happy because they WERE gonna be dresses from David's Bridal, but after thinking about it, reading a myriad of blogs, and then some other drama-ish issues, we are purchasing some dresses off of gojane.com! so cute, less than $60/ea and very similar look to the ones at DB; if they want to re-wear, that's great, if not, we will donate to charity =)
Off the rack... mostly because we ran out of time....
Some girls are getting it through Macy's, Nordstroms, or wherever else...
David's Bridal, but I'm letting them pick their own dresses. That way they can wear them again if they really like them and pick ones on sale if they want to save $$.
Off the rack all the way! I don't like BM dresses :( so I didn't want my maids to have to wear them!
I bought them from Target - they were perfect!
Off the rack from White House Black Market. Since we just wanted black and white, there was no reason to even go near a bridal store...but maybe if you have a really specific color that you're looking for, a bridal store would be more helpful than off the rack...? In any event, off the rack is great because the dresses (I think) are a better quality, it's easier to get (and try on!) the size that fits you better so you hopefully won't need alterations, and depending on the store you can encounter sales and/or coupons!
After a marathon shopping day in San Francisco with two of my bridesmaids, we found dresses at Macy's ($75!). It was great because I had no ideas about colors for the wedding until we found the dresses, and then it all fell into place.
