We haven't decided yet either. I am on decision overload at this point. Some good ideas for wording would be great.
We are getting ours engraved. The engravings will be a secret to both of us until the wedding day, so I have no idea what he'll be engraving on mine.
I'm still deciding on what I want to put in his, but right now I think it will be a line from the song he's going to sing to me at our reception. He plays the guitar and sings and I've always "hinted" to him that I'd love it if he sang me a song at our wedding. I've heard him in the basement a few times practicing one of my favorite songs, which is why I think that's the one he's going to sing. So, I'd like to take a line from that song and have it engraved in his ring. It's a beautiful song and a beautiful line. Makes me smile just thinking about it!
We're getting our bands engraved since it's free! :) We're doing simple. KEL to ATS with love 9/26/09"
I always said I would get my husbands band engraved with one of our inside jokes! One word: Nonrefundable Most people get sentimental things engraved but we just aren't that couple, we have a lot of sarcastic humor :P More than 5 months after our wedding I haven't been able to get the ring off his finger to get engraved...so now I have to devise a plan to do so, should be fun!
We are both having our bands engraved--I don't know what he's getting put on mine. I had our date and the words "I choose you" engraved on the inside. It will be a nice surprise to read on our wedding day.
Ours are engraved. My wedding band has his name in it and his wedding band will have my name and our wedding date. I couldn't fit the date in mine and he was joking that he'll need it so that he never forgets a) who he is married to and b) when our anniversary is!
We got our rings engraved. His says "Whither thou goest" and mine says "I will go" - it's part of a longer Bible verse. When we were newly planning our wedding I thought it would be sweet to surprise each other with inscriptions, but then I realized once the engraving is done, it's there forever! So, we decided together on what to engrave.
I had his ring engraved with "Love Never Fails" verse.
I had my husband's ring engraved for his groom's gift. It has a special inside joke and our wedding date. When he read it he got really emotional and I could tell it really meant a lot to him. :) Plus it was cheap!
We have a dorky little one-syllable phrase we say to each other that i thought would be cute to engrave. It's so cheesy, though! I was wondering if it'd be too kitschy to put in there and if he'd go "are you kdiding me?!" and laugh at me.
We didn't get our rings engraved. I thought about it, but frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if my husband loses his ring soon (we've only been married a week and a half and he's almost lost it already!). I figured it wasn't worth the extra money if he was going to end up losing his ring. ;)
I'm thinking about adding, "I choose you" to his. This line is big to him, and is in our vows.
I really want them to be engraved. I dont think my bands will be able to as they are very thin, but the FI's I would like to have something engraved. I have to go pick his up so I was thinking of maybe doing it as a suprise!....but dunno what...hmmmm
We are a very sarcastic, joking couple. His ring says PUT IT BACK ON and mine says DO NOT REMOVE!
our engraving is free. I don't know what he is putting on mine but I put "To my Favorite, with all my love". We always tell each other "you are my favorite" so I thought it was cute
We're having our rings engraved! I already know what I want to put on FI's ring. Stand Inside Your Love. FI is a fan of the Smashing Pumpkins (I'm not) so when I found the lyrics to that song I knew it was perfect (lyrics here). I hope it'll fit (rings will be in next week and until then we don't know how much room we'll have!).
Great thread! :D
I floated some ideas to my FI, including
my band: Fly me to the moon
his band: Let me play amongst the clouds
The only one he's ok with is a latin phrase of "my love is forever" or something like that. His current band (a stainless steel one i bought him for his deployment) says Te Amore S'empre (somthing like that) which means, loosely, "i will love you always" in italian.
He says we can do whatever I want, but I don't want to put something on his band that he's all "eh" about. We could also wait until an anniversary. With 3 weeks to go, we have like 1 week to decide for sure and I don't want to be rash.
I also did PUT BACK ON and our wedding date on his ring and he absolutely LOVED it! He thought it would be something mushy gushy so we was pleasantly surprised at my wittiness! He has been showing it off to everyone! Thanks to a Bee for suggesting it!
I wanted to do something like "put back on" - but he never takes it off! I take mine off when I go to bed, but he refuses to do even that.
Maybe I'll have it engraved one day. I work in retail - "no returns" would be appropriate. the main reason his isn't engraved is because i couldn't decide what to do.
My ring has 12 small diamonds, so only half of it could be engraved. It's also pretty narrow.
Our wedding date in Roman numerals. They look like this:
XI.XV.MMVIII
We waited until after the wedding to engrave ours. We couldn't decide before the wedding - everything was so hectic. So we made it our plan to decide our engraving on our honeymoon. While on our honeymoon we went into a beautiful local jewelry store which featured a lot of nautical pieces with roman numerals. We loved the idea and decided on roman numerals for our wedding date. It wasn't too cheesy for him, it's a little bit of a private thing between us and I think it's a very romantic way to display our anniversary.
Also, I am glad we waited until after the wedding as to avoid any mishaps/delays/etc. with our rings (it happened to a friend - and they had to use their parents' rings at the wedding!).
The one my fiancee is giving me was her grandmother's. We are pleased to be able to use one with such a family history, and are glad that her grandmother never had it engraved. We are not engraving ours, either.
Yes, we got our bands already. We engraved them with "E heart D" on his, and "D heart E" on mine.

I have my engagement ring and my FI's wedding band that I'm thinking about having engraved. I'm just not sure what. I think it'd be a nice little surprise. He thinks it's not really necessary and if we want to, we can do it for our anniversary. I think it's just easier now since we aren't exactly wearing them. I can swap something else for my E-ring for now.
So who got an engraving? What did you have engraved on them?
